2001 SL1 Security Light Problems

O.K. Bought the car used, no owners manual for it yet. Few months after I bought it, security light came on, with the service/monkey wrench light. The car would fire, but would die instantly. Gave up on it, went to work, and my uncle called the saturn dealership to find out what to do. It started right up for him. about 3 months later, having problems with the same thing, but it's now nearly every time I try to start the car, and it takes anywhere from 5-45 minutes to get the car to turn. I've tried sitting with the key in the on position, trying to reset everything on the car by unhooking the battery cable, don't really know what else to do with it. Has anyone had this problem with their cars? How do I fix it? I'm tired of cars that don't want to run right!!! So far I've loved this car, just not loving this new problem. Thanks for any input.

Well, the problem for me isn't that the light is on....so much as the fact that while that light is on, my car will not run. The Service/monkey wrench light stays on, and the Security light flashes. When that happens, the car will not run.
