98 WS Overdrive button broke - Help!

Hello I hope that someone can help me with a problem that just happened this week. I was in the hospital for major surgery for 10 days and when I was discharged my wife came to pick me up in our 98 WS van. We decided that it would best for her to use the VALET PARKING since parking is very hard. WELL when they brought the van to us they showed us that the OVERDRIVE BUTTON was hanging off the shift lever! They admit to causing it to break as the person did not push forward before trying to put into gear and the button snapped off.!! We had security put some tape around it and was able to secure it real good, no wires are broken and we can hit the button to show overdrive on or off.

They want an estimate so they can have it repaired so QUESTION can that piece just be replaced? If so is there a part number? Would just using a good epoxy glue work as good?

After spending all that money back in May for the fuel pump replacement I hope that this can be repaired easily???

I just ordered a new button (actually it's the whole knob) from my Ford Dealer. It was $56.00 for my 2001 Windstar. Delivery time was 2 days for me. It just snaps on basically - very easy repair.

Thank you PoliSciGrl! The new button that you ordered did you need a part number and if so where did you get it from? You mentioned it was a easy snap on repair.....did you have to disconect the battery to remove the electrical connections and was that easy to do?

I need 2 get estimates and hope that I can have someone do this repair for me as I cannot stay up to long yet. Maybe if is easy as you mentioned my wife can do the repair if we get the new button.

Well really just go to your local Ford dealer. They will be happy to look up the part and replace it. If someone else is paying for it. The dealer would be the best place for this job.. But this is an easy fix. The dealer will give you an estimate. As for getting 2 if you have 2 ford dealerships that will work. Do to the fact it is a dealer item.
