Yeh they're tinted now (already illegal) wish i could go that route so no one could see in my car, but then id be pulled over and given a ticket everytime a cop saw me... grrr..
but yea, I'd rather have a MTX anyways, I learned to drive on one. I just like it better. Plus I think it kinda crappy to have such a sporty car and it be an Auto... but thats just MO.

The other option is to tint the windows so dark no one can see in, never ever let anyone see inside, and roll backward occasionally at lights. Ricing can be very economical. Don't take what I said about being a poseur too seriously. The fastest WRX in the world has an auto tranny.
quickest cars on most platforms are autos. In general, the auto tranny is much quicker than manuals. It doesn't show forth on that on smaller engine non-turbo cars. You go into bigger engines, then yes. I've seen V8 Camaros race and see the auto come on top 9 out of 10 times. All the cars around here who run 5s and 6s in the 1/8th mile are all autos.
Generally, transmissions come down to preferences, but as a rule of thumb, autos are better for drag racing and manuals are better for autocrossing and road courses.

It also depends on how much torque the engine has(more favors the auto)
Auto trans make it real hard to keep the revs up.
Vectorspecialist you are such a tool :)

oi, you guys arent making this easy. the thing that sucks though is that i'll have no traction on my FWD TT. I would mostly be drag racing anyways, at least if im goin from a roll i can drop the gears faster in a manual than in an auto. though that may change after the swap. i dont know though. i do know now though that its kind of laggy.

you'll have more traction in the FWD auto then you will in the FWD manual. I can drop gears just as fast as a manual can, because I have a manual controller. If I ever get any extra time, I might try to come up with one of my own since the only one out that I know if is like 600 bucks. Its not even that complicated.

thats cool, i didnt know that. well im really gonna have to sit down and seriously think about which way i want to go. figure out all the pros and cons and then finally make a solid decision and sit on it. I keep flip flopping lol!

The only bad thing about the auto is a little more drivetrain loss and a little more weight. Although I know its stronger than the FWD MTX tranny, its probably not as strong as the Getrag trannies. Within the next couple of years i'm gonna try to test its limits. With the power your probably looking at making, you should be fine. Just remember that whatever decision you make, there will be positives and negatives to each transmission.
Only traction problems I came to (with the 9b's and stock differential) was on the launch, but after the first few feet, the tires would catch and go. Anything from a roll (even a 1st gear roll) had no issues for me. Hell, I did a first gear roll with 18T's @ 16 PSI, and the car just took off. Didn't even chirp a tire.
I might have some issues now with the kind of power i'm hoping to make, but now I also have an LSD, solid motor mounts, and stiffer suspension, so we'll see if I can still keep them planted. I'll eventually try to find some time to figure out how to get a good launch off.
Although what comes to mind, if I remember correctly, is that the best 60' time ever to be produced by a 3/S was by 3SX's T4 when they had the automatic AWD transmission in. When they put the 6-speed in, they haven't yet hit that 60' time they did with the auto.

look at the following link for the shift kit and transmission coolers
http://www.importperformancetransmissions.com/mitsubishiauto.shtml#main
you can also buy a B&M transmission cooler from summitracing.com. Long Tru (whats on IPTs site) and B&M seem identical to me. Both should work great, just which ever one you prefer.
mk so i checked out the site and not sure which trans cooler we're supposed to go with.
also saw this on the site too: IPT Reworked Valve Body w/ Translab Shift Kit (95-99 AWD and FWD Turbo and V6 applications for $429.00. is this something worth considering?

That is the valve body with the shift kit already installed in it, and they've appearantly done some sort of modification to the valve body of some kind. I couldn't tell you what the "extra work" is, and couldn't tell you if it really makes a difference. My guess that if it does make a difference, its not much at all, as the shift kit alone is awesome. Now, it might be worth getting if you need someone to install your shift kit anyways, because they take care of that for you.
As far as transmission coolers go, I have a B&M, 5 3/4 x 11 x 1.5 which is the equivalent to the 19,000 GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight).

ok, so just the shift kit by itself is fine then. And I would need the tranny cooler for the 19k GVW. Good stuff
Thanks again :D
