Help identify part

I was changing out the alternator in my dad's van and was wondering if someone could help me out with this part. It was laying next to the alternator.

He has an "00 3.8 if that's any help.

Item appears to be part of the IMRC linkage. Do a search in this forum for IMRC and you will get a lot of info. I'm kinda new here so someone else with more experience can give you more help.

Good call thats exactley what it looks like. The imrcs are behind the alternator andhave an electrical connection connected to each one. They are a diagfram that controls the equivelent of athe secondarys on a carborated car. When the car gets up to about 2800 rpm these two devices pull a rod like the one shown to open a butterfly in the intake manifold. Giving the van extra power. You will see one is probabley still connected. There are plastic clips that should be replaced because the one that ae on there are probabley broken. Put the clips in the hole first on the imrc and then push the rod in. It may be easier to get at if you remove the alternator. Post back with any questions.

thanks for the information. my dad is bringing the van over tomorrow and we'll give it a shot. i don't understand why the clips are so expensive, but oh well. they need to be replaced.

Gee, where did you see them that cheaply? My local dealer was just under $6 each.

they were $6 each. we went ahead and replaced all 4 of them. it's definitely easier with the alternator out of the way. car doesn't seem to hesitate at the moment. before, the van felt like it was misfiring, but couldn't really figure it out since plugs and wires had just been replaced. hopefully this will help him out a bit. he's been driving the van around with both of the links off for quite some time now.

I take it back . I looked at my receipt $4.79 each. I thought it was for 2.
You should have lacked a lot of power without the imrcs working. There should be a big difference over 3000 rpm.
