Rear drum brake ceasing wheel

When installing new rear drum brakes on a 2004 Windstar, its ceasing the wheel when it is torqed down. I have to idea why it wont move...Anyhelp??

check the wheel cylinder and make sure the pistons move a frozon piston will cause lock up

Star wheels?

Yes, star wheels. Those are the adjusters that keep the brake shoes close to the drum as the shoes wear. Every time you back up, a pawl comes in contact with the star wheel and ratchets it a bit. They spread the shoes apart. When you put new brake shoes in, you have to turn the star wheel back in to the starting position. If you get that adjuster assembly in wrong, you will have nothing but trouble with those brakes from that point on. I think you better re-check. Just as an FYI, it's always a good practice to replace only one side at a time. That way, if you forget how a part goes in place, you always have the other side as reference. Even the pros do it that way.

Yep you may have found your problem. Got to Adjust them. Not freewheel or hard to turn but a nice firm drag with wheels off.When you put the wheel back on you should feel a slight drag.

The "star wheel" is what I have labeled as "self adjuster".

I put a bunch of new stuff in, as my '96 is a bit older.
I do recommend a new hardware kit when doing the rear drum brake shoes....something you might want to do next time as it is cheap, and makes the job a little easier.
As new as your vehicle is, you should not need to replace the self adjusters.....mine were still fine.
I do recommend a very small dap of the brake caliper grease as shown to keep the self adjusters moving freely as they should.

Also, spray down everything with brake cleaner......INCLUDING the wheel speed exciter (looks like a gear) and sensor.
