Then the Torino that they are running from comes around the corner, the driver hanging out the window yelling

160hp is fairly quick for a import lineup.

What is a vspec engine btw? I believe on the of the "you might be a ricer" posts said, a ricer is someone who talks like they know what they are talking about, but they really dont. :o

hybridsol bought the motor for 50 bucks blown, and completely rebuilt it. the y1 we got out of another car, factory wheels 8.7lbs, where is this chevette I would like to challenge him.:p

So it's an amazing stroke of luck, and $4K in building an engine. Then add a CRX which he already had, and what about the tranny and stuff? I don't mean to sound like an ass, but I like to count everything that goes into car, including tires and gas :)

The Chevette was a Hot rod magazine project car, a budget 10 second racer... www.hotrod.com

They called it, the Bad Seed... had a 500CI Cadillac big block as I recall... they were planning a performance rebuild in the future, at which point they figured on a 7-8 second chevette

I rebilt the motor (fully blueprinted it) measured it out(to exacts)- it helps to be a perfectionist as well. the motor also has a rather large Turbo, We find parts for rather cheap around here, Im beginning to see that in other locations around the world ppl seem to pay more for performance parts, also it helps when you do all the labor yourself. honestly it would cost more for me to build lets say a (camero) than it would for me to build up a honda.

I asked that same question, of what is under the hood? It seems he is not at liberty to divulge in further detail due to the fact that the car is a team car and not one persons, and some ppl don't want everyone knowing whats under the hood, I can understand that. the new si's are pretty quick, they still weigh light and they have a bigger engine with the all new "i-vtec". I admit, i am not a fan on how they look at all. To me i think they look like a small mini mini van lol

Check out the times on the new civic Si http://www.car-stats.com/stats/showstats/showstatsgivenid.aspx not too impressive, I definitely wouldn't be happy with that at all, in fact i'd be embarrassed to race with times like that. Keep in mind as well that these results were from car and driver magazine, and they use professional drivers.

Well I am going to be an ass and bring up my LeBaron. Stock it ran low 14s in the 1/4 and for less than $1,000 you are running in the low 12s. There is NOTHING impessive about a stock Honda Civic, NOTHING!

And Kris, I think he was talking about the picture that was posted of the Spoon modified CRX, no Stock Civic can run 13s stock. I have seen the Civic Si get beaten buy a Chevy Silverado, 160HP, big deal.

I agree, Honda has no grounds for thinking that the Civic is anywhere NEAR a sports car. The only car that the Honda side produces that could be called a sports car is the S2000.

Realistically the definition of what makes a sports car is too open to opinion.

To me a sports car is something that can do 13s or lower in the 1/4 mile, is better as a two seater car, or it is uncomfortable in the back seats, can go at least 160 MPH, has to look like it is going fast standing still, has more than 250HP and has to have a descent amount of torque unlike the NSXs crappy 200 ft/lbs, it has to handle like it is on rails, it has stop pretty damn quick as well with little to no fading.

I am talking about stock here as well. Any car can be made into a sports car with a given amount of time and money, some are just a waste though.

That is a sports car to me, if you are honestly going to debate my statement that Honda makes a true sports cars, then I don't know which one you are talking about, sure some of their cars are "sporty" but they are by no means sports cars.

Also, nothing a owner spends his/her money on, is a waste to that person. So for you to repeatedly say it is a waste, is pretty sad.

Myself, I cant think of why anyone wants to even change the way a LeBaron runs. Seems like it should be left for the grandma next door. I have a few other opinions of them, but I keep them to myself. But I would never say anything of the sorts.

You know, if you feel that the LeBaron is waste of time and money then so be it, I don't mind; go ahead and say it if you please. For the most part, I would agree with you. Mine was one of 94 I think that were worth putting any money into, they have a lot of potential. Stock they could waste over 80% of the cars on the road, and for very little money could be made to go a lot faster, hell the GTC were raced in GT races. That is why they were the GTC, Grand Touring Coupe.

type s prelude h22a 220 hp, Integra type R b18c5 japspec 197 hp, RSX k20c 220 hp, civic si b16a b16a2 a3 and so on 158-170, integra gsr b18c sir 178 hp, and lets not forget the NSX 290 hp stock. there are many more. but it is a matter of opinion.

You didn't qoute the rest of my post, which I might remind you was simply my opinion. You aren't going to convince me with any of those numbers, I said at least 250HP and a descent amount of torque, and the NSX only has 200, so it does not fall on my list of sports cars.

Dude, I burn hondas in an old rusty minivan... you should see the look on a ricers faces as the Aerostar slowly pulls away... I'm tempted to put a big vtec badge on the back hatch.

Not to say that everyone who drives a honda is a ricer, just many in my town :(

Anyhow, I humbly point out that a Mazda 626 3 valve turbo has more potential with the stock components than a civic. If you're willing to drop thousands to build an engine for a FWD car, go ahead... I'll be happy getting 400hp/500lbft out of one of those ridiculous, inefficient dinosaur V8s for $1500, and then putting it in a light RWD sports car... RX7 anyone? :D

the new NSX type S's top speed is 175 mph. its a 7 mph increase over the older body style's 168 mph

Hmm, then I retract my previous statement. I would consider the NSX a sports car, but still its not worth the $80,000 grand, I'll get an GTR34 Skyline for that price. :D

kris-why are you comparing the new civic si to a LS1 camaro? A brand new 02 z28 starts at $23,480(quoting from official chevrolet website)... the SS isnt much faster than the z28 as many may presume to be true. With that said.. the $24g camaro runs low 13's versus the 19g(starting price quote from honda) civic si that runs low 16's... perhaps i misunderstood the question.. whats the question again?

i'd also put my money on the z28 on a road course vs the si too...

You said I had been beaten by a civic. This is not the case, and I posted as such. I don't profess to be an expert on civics, so I don't know what kind they were, but they were fairly late model.

Then you go off calling me "dumb", a "stupid ass", and telling me to "shut the fuck up". I'm not trying to incite anything here, but obviously you are. I mentioned there are ricers in my town, who have ridiculous civics with huge wings, fart cans, altezzas and stickers. You might ask how I know they don't have any performance upgrades? We look at the list of mods they have done to their car and they are all the same. If you do not wan't to get stereotyped as the average honda ricer, then do something unique and not follow the footsteps of other ricers.

hey r1racer, i actually get compliments about my exhaust from everyone around here they are like "it is sounds really deep and mean, i love how your engine sounds strong and im glad it doesnt sound like a weed eater". I do the basics first,

1. I got wheels b/c i rather autocross than drag race any day
2. I got a front strut bar to stiffen the chassi during turns
3. I got a air intake for better gas mileage (didnt do shit for performance)
4. I got a full 2 inch cat back exhaust b/c the stock exhaust was restrictant as hell.
5. I bought lowering springs for cornering and i was about to buy struts but now i cant put them on. (other topic)
6. I painted the side moldings b/c it looks better.
7. I dont watch the F & F for information about cars
8. and thats about it

I agreee wiht you, their are awhole lot of dumbass's who have a honda that dont know what the hell they are doing.

for instance, at my school, their is about 10 4 doors with altezza's and exhausts and thats it. they are dx's and they always rev at me (i hate that).

But seriously, when we (or at least I, and for the most part I think I can speak for some of the veteran posters) say "Honda", we aren't talking about class act performance machines like JDM EK-9 Civic Type-R hatchbacks or the S2000 roadster. We're talking about, as Cbass said, mostly stock riced out sedans and coupes with non V-tec engines and coffee cans on the tips of their exhausts. Honda makes great engines, I'm an admirer of the transverse mounted V12 engine they used in the Type RA272 Formula 1 car of 1965. But, not every Civic is a corner carving, FF chassis masterpiece. That's the assumption that most guys want to lay to rest.

With all due candor, I state that you are mistaken. Yes, there are performance Hondas. Yes, Honda makes great engines. And yes, Honda has built some impressive sports cars. But they are not a performance company nor does that performance filter down through the entire model range.

Honestly are their any good hondas besides ones that have been professionally moded or the Nsx or S2000 because i cant think of any
