Hmmmm... I can smell the unmistakable stench of a fetid, ripe, maggot-infested pile of bovine manure... in some recent posts...
As Marcellius orated in Hamlet... "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark..."
And we appear to have a 'phantom' persona present I exhibit the following articles of evidence of recent weeks:
* The mysteriously disappearing teutonic car...
* Replaced by an even rarer example of americana...
* Someone who doesn't know their own age...
* Who engages in some rather bizarre posts... (ok that could be me too)
* Made some very outrageous claims of late...
I leave it to you, the council of my peers to consider the evidence (which can be found within AF) and come to a verdict... because this is beginning to get out of hand - you can be anyone you want to be on the internet but "even my own hypocrisy has it's limits, Wyatt."

Saw an interesting article today(iMag,nov)...apparently,a Dr Marc Feldman, who specialises in 'imagined' disorders, such as Munchausen's Syndrome is advancing the theory of Munchausen by Internet Syndrome...according to his research, there is a trend emerging whereby people of a particular nature are logging into forums and chat rooms seeking sympathy for fictitious tragedies, maladies, misfortunes etc,etc...

interesting, so they write a post in a chat about some sort of misfortune that never happend to them, in hopes of someone comforting them or sympathizing with them, on a topic which they never experienced? why? thats really interesting though its going to make me hesitant to respond to another sympathy thread, do you have the article?

Fascinating...the quest for constant pity-parties definitely fits - but how does the Boxter come into all of it? This particular individual seems to desire pity and jealousy (and come to think of it, lust) simultaneously.

low self - esteem. Common in certain mental conditions, the individual attatches no worth to their opinions and believes that people will only notice her/him if she owns something of value.

hey...us old men take exception to negative stereotyping!
It's an interesting call though....must sit down and compare his/her style of writing with, say,Tangie's or Boingo's.When you read closely, and pay attention to sentence structure, you get an idea of the thought processes......
But on a side issue, what are the ethics issues of dissecting a member like this in such a public fashion?I doubt if I would care to have it done to me[but then I have always been completely honest about my shortcomings].

I see your point T-man, ethically I feel it to be wrong, I kind of feel like part of a witch hunt, ostracizing that one person from the rest of AF, who knows if she's telling the truth or not. I too am forthcoming and truthful in my posts. But it is easy for other's to deceive. when they cannot see facial expressions or even faces for the matter at hand. So I guess all we can do is wonder?

I do. In "her" profile, the birthday is 2/14/1982. I have THE EXACT SAME BIRTHDAY. However, I am 20 years old, whereas this person has claimed in 3 different places to be 19 years old. Even someone who sucks at math still knows their own age.
Profile (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=41962)
1st claim to be 19 (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?postid=633545#post633545)
2nd claim (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?postid=632333#post632333)
3rd claim (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?postid=611790#post611790)
Of course this is in addition to all the car shenanigans - in one post she claims to be poor and struggling, yet previously claimed to own a "Porshe Boxter", later claiming it was T-boned. The only thread previously with any mention of an accident said she got rear-ended (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?postid=600449#post600449) ..
Now she claims to have a Chevelle. And if you look back to this individual's first 2 posts, she was trying to purchase a 1965 Aston Martin or a 1966 Shelby Cobra - neither of which are cheap.

while reading through this thread I started to wonder why this is being discussed. What is the big deal. So what if she lies, it doesn't require a forensics investigation of her. Unless I missed something that she said that may have pissed someone off I really don't think this is appropriate or needed at all.

Sorry Higgi - I was expressing a viewpoint and my annoyance - which is why this was in stress release.
I've always believed that you are what you - we all have things we want to have or aspire to - but I have enough trouble living up to the promise that I was granted on this earth and see no point in trying to live up to some sort of fantasy. The vast majority of folk I've conversed with here are pretty honest and open about a range of things - which is part of the reason I post here...
I just thought it would be useful that given the inconsistency of someone's post that maybe this would encourage everyone to try and remember that you we all get by with a little bs but great heaps of them give themselves away...

I agree with mr.T. As much as anything, this thread is letting the BSers know that we're not morons. I don't appreciate people assuming I won't see through their idiotic games.

Well, I never loooked at it like that before. In this ligth I would have to agree. I don't like the idea that people think they can fool us into not noticing their inconsitencies. That is one of the things about this place. Their are personalities and history and people pay attention to what others say so when someone comes and begins to break up our way it is unwelcomed.
I was originally viewing her as just trying to fit in. I have a friend who does the same thing all the time. he consistantly lies to sound interesting and is never consitant in his lies. It has gotten so bad that I don't believe any thing he says. Even if it absolutely true I just never believe him. But I digress. No I see why this issue is one of annoyance.
