Hi, Im having some trouble getting the cam position sensor adjusted correctly on my 99 3.8. I had the engine replaced, the shop didnt know about the special tool to align the cam sensor, they finally got the tool and have tried 3 times to set the sensor w/ no luck, I get cel w/1309 after about 10 miles pretty regularly. would I be better served by taking it to the dealer and let them try? Ive talked to a couple of mechanics at local shops and they all took a couple tries to get it right for similar jobs. Has anybody else had this problem?

I might can find a photo that I took when the synchroniser was replaced. But first, do you have any problem locating TDC markings on the crankshaft pulley? They can be quite "faint".

Well, I found the photo .... but now realise that it will do you no good.

Why? Because I took the photo as a "before" photo ... making sure that I got the synchroniser back in the same position "after" parts replacement. Of course, all during this procedure the crankshaft was not moved .... but neither was it in any particular position ... TDC?, I doubt it! I just don't know where it was.

Do you have a Haynes? They have a drawing of the synchroniser and cam sensor vane at crankshaft TDC.
