Why what exactly? If it's what I think it is, then I don't know. A friend told me that everyone should have something to believe to stay sane, or something like that. I just agree and anything is better than nothing. About the reincarnation, I just figure it's a more plausable possibility to believe in.

why believe?(Not in the "I believe I'm watching tv right now" sort of way, obviously)

I think believing in something just for the sake of believing in something kind of defeats the whole purpose of believing at all.(refer to previous post about religions finding truth etc.) :)

Word for the day:
Tautology
from www.dictionary.com
\Tau*tol"o*gy\, n. [L. tautologia, Gr. ?: cf. F. tautologie.] (Rhet.) A repetition of the same meaning in different words; needless repetition of an idea in different words or phrases; a representation of anything as the cause, condition, or consequence of itself.
(in logic) a statement that is necessarily true; "the statement `he is brave or he is not brave' is a tautology" 2: useless repetition; "to say that something is `adequate enough' is a tautology"
Damien - Belief for belief's sake is a tautology. IMHO, it does not keep you sane; just busy. And is "something" always "better than nothing"? Would Hell be preferable to nothingness?

Well this is an old thread, but it is my first time and want to get all my viewpoints accross, but I believe heaven is not what it cracks up to be- it would be sitting down reading bibles and loving one anther.
But in hell you have freedom, there are no limitations- in hell there is no evil.
But quite honestly niether of them exist

You got me there. I guess I wasn't exactly saying what I mean......Hell could be preferable,at least uyou know where you're going when you die as oppose to it being a sudden shock. Idk......remember, I didn't come up with it. What I meant was have some kind of belief, not like where you're going to go when you die, just.....something to keep, you say busy...I say sane. I know it's helped me. Also...everyone believes in something......they just won't admitt it or aren't sure of the specifics.
This is getting to be a long thread isn't it?

Well Personally I don't believe there is a heaven or a hell. If there is an Afterlife/reincarnation/Transcendence (or whatever you believe there is after), there is only one time when we will all figure out what is there.
Now I'm a big believer in fate, whatever happens is going to happen anyway, Wether or not it's controlled by a deity is your belief. Many people have said that I have no drive because I don't believe I have control over my life. I think thats bollocks (sh*t to you yanks). I have control, I just believe that when I make a decision, the response happens and thats what was meant to happen.
No Remorse, No Regrets.
just my 5cents (due to inflation)
