Too keep us on topic. These people who did this will pay dearly. Islamic
people living down here are scared that people will hurt them. Just b/c
they are Arabian or Muslim doesn't mean they had a part in this terrible
act.

I'd prefer that any war be over with as soon as possible.

Right. The more this thing drags on, the worse. It would be in the best interest of our nation's people for the government to quickly stomp out the problem and leave it in the past.
Speaking of war with terrorists, I know its just a movie, but perhaps "The Siege" can give you an idea of what our country might look like if we were involved in that type of situation.

I agree. And any war on terrorism will last a LONG time. You have to get the bad governments, the financers, militants, and then make it so the people wont want to kill you. A very formidable task. I guy in todays paper said it will take years and hundreds of billions of dollars.
I just really, really hope those terrorists dont get any nukes or bio-weapons, as they are getting close. We need to strike now, decisevely (sp), and we need to win, or millions are doomed.:(

I agree with that too, Countries tend to be smart about when they make the choice to go Nuclear. No matter what county it is, they won't go Nuclear cause they no that they will get it X10 from the States.
As for Terrorists, they're already possesed to killed and the worst part is, they have no country, well not one they they are going to blame unless there truly messed. So basically Terrorists can get a hold of any weapons (With Time+Money) and then use those weapons and leave no trace.
I guess the war against terrorism is like "Fighting the Darkness, it sees and knows what you do not"

I don't care how crafty or whatever they are, terrorists are REALLY FUCKING STUPID. They basically try to annihilate anyone that is obviously better off than them...if they "succeed", well congratulations, you just basically slammed the entire world back to where we were during the friggin cave man days. They all bitch and complain about how poor their country is, how they don't have enough food to feed their kids, then blow everything up and turn any advanced civilization into another "poor country"...and lose any last little glimpse of hope that they might advance like us.

The War on Terrorism, will b like the War on Drugs. It will be a long, hard process, that will cost money. I for one am willing to do it.
As for other countries using any type of Weapon of Mass Destruction, they will pay dearly. It is US policy to pretty much level any nation that launches an attack like this. So I think they will really think twice about that.

Hi all, here's a column that I just read. I thought it was really good, so I wanted to post it here.
We must hunt and eliminate these monsters
America falls victim to vicious attack over ideology
Diane Francis
Financial Post
I left the United States in the 1960s with an immigrant husband because of the Vietnam war. He was about to be drafted even though he had lived there for only a handful of years.
That war was an abomination, based on ideology and paranoia about the communists. While much fuss is made about the fact that 60,000 Americans died for nothing, let's not forget that 2.5 million Vietnamese lost their lives, mostly innocent women and children.
By the 1990s, communism had declared Chapter 11 because the system was totally flawed and incapable of creating wealth. Americans even elected a draft avoider, Bill Clinton, as President. America would no longer be an ideological perpetrator. The business of America was once again business.
This week, however, America became an ideological victim. A handful of fanatical Moslems --who believe capitalism, globalization and free trade are the roots of all evil -- killed themselves and thousands more. They equate America with Satan because it is the biggest and best example of free enterprise at work, the World Trade Center towers its ultimate symbols.
Ironically, Saudi mass murderer suspect Osama bin Laden, and his chief rogue nation supporters (likely Libya and Iraq), have benefited more than most from capitalism. They finance evil deeds out of massive oil wealth, directly or indirectly. Instead of using this money to lift the living standards of their people they squander it, buying weapons and recruiting suicidal soldiers.
These actions are mad, but not to them. Ideologues always believe the means justifies the end because they are convinced they are correct or acting on behalf of God. They also believe that life's goal is simply to fight Satan in order to reach paradise. Suffering and martyrdom are merely another means to an end.
Ideology is why 19 relatively educated Moslem zealots this week boarded planes and killed themselves by turning their hijacked jets into flying bombs. It's why kamikaze pilots killed themselves at Pearl Harbor. It's why Crusaders died in droves.
This is simply another "religious" war, something that has plagued Europe forever. Eventually, in some European societies, church and state were separated and the rule of law imposed. This meant, for the first time in history, people agreed to disagree. And that is, to my mind, the ultimate goal of civilization. It is also a necessary precursor to sustainable economic prosperity for the masses.
Currently, there is no such separation in the rogue nations. They are as backward in their thinking as were medieval European monarchs and the Vatican, who made prosperity impossible on the basis that interest collected on borrowed money (the basis of the financial system itself) was usury and therefore evil. Naturally, they believed that the most successful capitalist practitioners were evil too.
So did Communists. So did Hitler.
The real enemy, if it can be so described, is poverty. But that's not due to capitalism's failure, nor is it caused by U.S. multinationals, Hollywood violence, free trade or the Central Intelligence Agency. Poverty is the result of ignorance, bad governance and excessive birth rates.
It's also critical to note that this is not an ideology believed in by all Moslems or by all Middle East nations. One of the most revealing television interviews this week was an Arab immigrant who was at the scene holding a picture of his beloved uncle. His relative had reported to work at 5:30 a.m. as a cook in the doomed restaurant atop the first tower.
"He was a good man and I'm here for his wife and children and the people who loved him," he said.
The significance of this tragedy is that ordinary people, even those raised in sick societies, get it.
Here was a man who worked hard for a better life in America. He got his family out from under the madness spouted by whatever mullahs or despots or ideologues controlled his birthplace. Without knowing him, but knowing others in Canada and the U.S. like him, he worked to give his kids a life in a superior and more just society.
Free enterprise and the rule of law are humanity's only hopes. The most egalitarian societies in the world, led by the United States, embrace these systems. The least egalitarian are those who this week perpetrated, or applauded, the obscene attacks as a victory against godlessness.
Bin Laden, and his accomplices and assets, must be eliminated. They are throwbacks, unevolved and delusive re-creations of the worst ideological monsters in history. They must be destroyed. Anything less leaves the globe and the world's economy increasingly exposed and impedes the eventual eradication of poverty.

I agree. Great article.
I attended a lecture last week at Central Connecticut State University. I found that also very enlightening. One of the speakers addressed the mindset of the terrorists responsible for self-sacrificing acts of violence, like those responsible for the September 11th attacks. He spoke of how deteriorating living conditions, political and economic oppression, etc. will contribute to drive people to do anything to find a way out. Terrorism represents a solution, where your family is to be provided for and you will have a place in heaven surrounded by 70 virgins (or something similar, that it seems on earth only Hugh Hefner can hold a candle to). In light of these religious beliefs, it begins to make sense. Unfortunately, belief systems like this do nothing for me except reinforce my opposition to organized religion.
Another speaker brought another startling reality to the attention of the audience. This is that there are clauses that are allowing the Bill of Rights to be "bent," and laws to be violated. For example, persons to be detained for an indisclosed period of time without formal chargers being filed. The speaker further elaborated that this represents victory for the terrorists responsible, as what we are seeing in front of us are violations of our freedom - success for the terrorists. The roots of terrorism are to cause the target to commit acts that would never come to pass in times of peace. Violations of the freedoms of American citizens under legal statues of Federal law certainly are accounted for under these precedences. What the fuck is happening to us?

Sometimes I wonder if some of the lecturers going to campuses have other agendas other then describing the events of 911. "For example, persons to be detained for an indisclosed period of time without formal chargers being filed." This has been going on for a long time. One of the forms is failure to testify under oath. If you dont talk the judge can lock you up until you do. Could be years under lock and key with no charges or trial to put you there. So, I dont know how he can use that example to point out that somehow the terrorists have altered our freedoms. We've had enough problem with that the last fifty years without there help.
