torque converter switch

I've got a 96 Windstar that stalls immediately when put into reverse or drive but idles fine in park and runs in 1st and 2nd gear. I've been told this might be the torque converter switch (not the solenoid) and that this is on the outside of the transmission.

Can anyone tell me how to change this part and if they think this might be the problem?
