Air Bag problems

Last weekend, while driving, my airbag light came on, so I called onstar, and they "probed" my car and found something wrong with the air bag. Heres the thing: The dealer cant get me in for service for 2 weeks, and this light has came on twice so far. Will the dealer still be able to find the trouble code, even if the air bag light is not on at the time? Because like I said before, its only done it twice so far, but still wanted to get it checked out, but I wont if they cant find anything without a trouble light being on.

The SDM stores a code in memory. So even if the light goes out, there is still a code.
The problem is if the light comes on a goes out, the fault is intermittant and will be more difficult to diagnose than a hard failure.

Most of the time an intermittant fault is in a moving part (like the clockspring) or caused by moisture in the circuits (like the SDM under the seat). If you had water on your floor ...passenger side, or if the vehicle was recently dolled up with a hose washing the carpets, you could have damaged the control unit and it will need to be replaced.
I too agree witht he previousl post though. the fault code will be stored for GM or any airbag scanner to read and decode

That may not help you if you have a different problem.:grinyes:
Better to start a new post with your problem.
If you light is on you will need to get the code read with a Air bag capable scanner to find the problem.
A good repair shop can do that for you.

Well, I got the car to the Chevy dealer yesterday. They called me today and told me that they couldn't pull and codes, but they were still checking other places. So I spent about 90 minutes trying to get an intelligent Onstar advisor, and when I do get someone who knows what im talking about, they give me a code that they got when they ran their test a few weeks ago. Its B1001. Have no clue what that means, but the guy at the dealer said that they would get back to me. I doubt they will today. Does anyone have a clue what that means? Also, when I took it in, thy guy said that he was smelling coolant, and here i am thinking that its was the soap from the car wash, cuz I only smell it only after running through a car wash. He said something about it being the lower intake manifold. Could it be from somewhere else? Anyone have this problem on the 3.8 motor?:banghead:

Body code B1001 is for Option Configiration Error.
More or less it is saying one of your computers is not programed or set up right. Something is not matching up right.
Could be SBM or body or IPC or PCM
Good one for the dealer to work on.
Good Luck MT

Well, they found the problem... Its the bypass module for my aftermarket remote starter thats causing the problem. Since the person who installed it was referred to me by the dealer, hes gonna look at it on monday to figure out how to fix it. Who would've known that something as a remote starter would cause an air bag light to come on:disappoin

Thanks for posting back how it is going.
Glad they found the problem and hope they can figure out the remote starter problem.
The Body computer was doing it job right and picked up the problem and set the code.
All of you computers are networked together together.
They talk to each other and share information.
When the remote module or remote start was added the body computer and other computers picked it up but were not {Programmed} for it.
Why it set the SIR light is odd But computers do some strange things when something is not quite right.
Now the remote starter installer will have figure out to get the remote to work with and be compatible with the other pcm and modules.
Let us know how it goes.

Well, I finally got my car back, and it was not the remote starter. It was the BCM. They replaced it, I picked the car up, got it home, and noticed the none of the key fobs were working. No biggie, I just reprogrammed them. But after I did that, I noticed that my alarm, trunkjamb, and tire monitor reset options were not there. So I ended up calling the dealer again, and ended up taking it back. While making my way back to the dealer, I stoped at a drive-thru to geting something to drink. While I was sitting there waiting, the lights poped on, and for some reason, I hit the fog light button, and it didnt light up!! So Im just about pissed off right now, and when I do finally make it, the SA noticed that I really wasn't a happy person, considering I just had to drive about 20 miles to get back there. And do you know what the whole problem was? The simpleton who put the BCM in, did not program the damn thing!!! The SA felt so bad, that hes gonna give me a free oil change the next time I come in. I get it home, and hit the lock button, everything works. I hit the unlock button, the horn beeps, like it supposed to, but it beeps 3 times, and it normally beeps 2 times when you hit the unlock button. Its nothing major, I just couldn't see myself driving 20 miles one way again to get that fixed. BCM issue again? Who knows... At least some good came out of it.
