Low Tire Pressure Light

I don't even know where to start. I'm so pissed.

I have a 2005 Impala that I wrecked in August of 2006 - it had 5500 miles on it. I got it fixed and everything was good. So I thought...

In January of 2007, my car started feeling weird when I would stop...it actually felt like when the ABS comes on. The brake pedal vibrated a little and it just felt like it does when you are trying not to skid. I took it to the dealer and they said that they couldn't find anything because a light nor a code had come up. I took it back several times, and they couldn't duplicate the problem. So, finally the light came on one weekend and I took pictures of it. I took it into the dealer again, and told them I wanted that fixed, and I wanted my tires rotated. I went to pick my car up that day, and they said the light hadn't thrown a code, but they did rotate my tires. That pissed me off that they said it would throw a code if the light came on. So, I decided I was going to go to another dealer from then on. So, that evening, my low tire pressure light came on...that was in Jan of 2007. The new dealer found the problem with the traction control system. All I can remember is that it had something to do with a pinched wire and a harness (haha...I don't know all the technical words). Anyways, I have still been having problems with the air pressure light coming on. I have taken my car in probably 15 to 20 times for the same problem. The new dealer told me that it had to do with one of my tires being a Z rated tire (and all the rest were S rated). Well, when I had my wreck, they had replaced 2 tires...they must have put 1 Z rated one on the car. I went back and forth between the dealership and the tire shop. The tire shop said that the Z rated tire had nothing to do with it, and the dealership said it did. To get a second opinion, I went back to the old dealership (because they had changed service people). They told me that the Z rated tire had nothing to do with it. They told me that my air pressure was different due to the weather conditions changing all the time. My light would come on between 1 and 2 times a week. So, I dealt with this old dealer for a while, and finally they said it was the Z rated tire. I went and replaced the tire with a S rated tire so they would all match. Now, the light is coming back on again. When I took it in yesterday, the first guy said something about resetting it through my radio. I told him that I didn't need to take it to him for that...I can do that myself, but that isn't getting to the root of the problem. The next service guy said something about a Class 2 Data problem - and that if that is what it is, then I would have to reopen my insurance claim because it wouldn't be covered under warranty. First of all, how do they know it happened from the wreck...it didn't first occur until 5 months after my wreck (when they rotated my tires). Anyways, that's what he was telling me yesterday. Today when I took it in, he told me that he drove an Impala home yesterday with the same problem. He said the problem with the other Impala actually dealt with one of the tires going 5 psi under the rest of the tires and it was setting off the light on the dash. He said that might be my problem. Ok after he said that I started getting pissed again because that is what I've been told for 5 months now (besides the Z rated tire being the problem). He wants to try to recreate the problem...but that is going to be hard...and he hasn't had any luck yet. He said something about trying to tear my dash apart to look at some data line, but he wants to use that as a last resort. He said that he was going to check the pressures when driving, and if they are different it must be due to the weather changes. Ok, my car doesn't drive in a weather bubble that is different from the rest of the city. If my car is having these low tire pressure problems, shouldn't other people in the city...I mean my car isn't the only one effected by the weather.

I called Chevrolet headquarters in Detroit because I don't know what else to do. My warranty will run out this December, and I only have 15,600 miles on it right now. They said they would see what they could do and opened up a ref# for me.

What are my options? I just want my damn car fixed.

Do I have any other options? I feel like I'm getting the run around.

Welcome to AF. I'd suggest putting 4 tires and wheels from another Monte on there and see if the problem reoccurs, as a former GM service Mgr that is what I would do at this juncture to satisfy myself and you the owner, that it is or is not a tire /wheel issue.
