Pwr Window switch dissasembly

I was reasearching my power window issue and came across an excellent link to the schematics of the power windows module that someone had posted.

I have my switch for my 99 in my hands. I have removed the white bottom cover.

Has anyone managed to get the circuit card out? If so do you need to remove the switch covers (levers)? and if so how?

I think my malfunction is as simple as loose pins on the PC Board. If only I could get the board out.

Are you asking about the 2 up driver's side Power window toggle switch. If so, you just detach the broken toggle switch once you have pried up the oval-shaped cover, pul the assembly up and out of the door panel, detach the wires, and attach the wires to the new toggle. Try it though before you snap the oval cover back on.

I am talking about the driver's side power window switch assembly but I already have it out of the van and on my bench. I am trying to disassemble the switch assembly itself without breaking anything because I believe I can repair it.

What I need to do is to remove the levers themselves. The buttons are actually below the levers. I need to be able to take the PC board out of the switch assembly housing. This is probably more disassembly than most will bother to attempt

DRW1000: it sounds like the problem i had with my 02. the drivers window went down but not back up. the problem was in the contacts of the driver switch. i removed the switch and used 2 jump wires to put the window up. the with the switch in hand put on 2 test leads to the meter (on the diode test to hear the continuity beep when the contacts close) with the test leads on the up side of the switch contacts i used compresed air to blow in the switch area from above and below and tapping the switch case with a screwdriver and moving the problem switch on and off a few times the meter was beeping indicating the switch was now working. reinstalled and it has work flawless. it would seam to me that a small piece of grit had fallen onto the switch area and down into the switch contact area causing the contact to not close. it worked for me. i could not get the switch a part with out braking it so this was an option to an expensive replacement. my 2 cents good luck 463

I tried reflowing all of the solder joints and it seems to have solved the problem. I never did figure out how to open the switch.

Yeah I shorted the wires to get my wife's window up but this was after she got caught in a downpour.

If you are having problems with the windows not going up or down, the problem is not the switch. Rather it is the puddle of water under the carpet on the passenger side of the car. Under the carpet is a wiring harness. The blue and white wires are for the window switches. If there is a break in them, it will cause a short and cause the switches not to work. It is an easy fix, I did it myself. However, if you fix them and they still do not work, follow the wires to the back and also forward, there could be a break somewhere else in the wire.

what wires did you connect to raise the window , i dont have a wiring diagram ! ,i find the 12v on one of the brown leads and the 2 wires to the motor are blue and brown . Does the motor run in one direction or does it reverse to raise / lower ?

Thanks , im trying to raise the window too and it looks like i need a new switch ! Jerry Uhte

Alas, I am off to the chevy dealer on Wed to have my right passenger window motor/switch or even maybe my driver side window switch replaced. My passenger window is stuck at the down level. I am at the mercy of the deal's service dept. Please pray for me!

Good chance it is just your 2 up driver's side Power window toggle switch going bad. See my post earlier up the list. Hopefully the dealership did not just replace the window motor and switch when it could have been just the 2up DS toggle. Let us know what solved it for you. Remember to use this post first b4 you have to resort to the sometimes trial and error stealerships.

Hey bigbaddad, I had the same issue with my passenger side window. It would intermitently get stuck in the down position. You could always move it down but sometimes not up. Then finally it would not go up at all. Using the wiring diagram in my inexpensive Haynes manual I got out a volt/ohm meter and diagnosed it as a faulty passenger side switch. Picked up a new switch from the Chevy dealer and within minutes I was back in business.

2003 Chevy Venture LT. Contact Cleaner may be worth a try. My drivers side window decided to stay down all of a sudden, so i read a few of these articles to get me going in the right direction. I pulled the switch out and got the white cover off the bottom. The circuit board looked AOK, but i guess thats normal. I put the cable back on the switch just enough to safely get a tester on it and found the Yellow was the hot feed, Brown was drivers side down, Dark Blue was drivers side up, Light Blue was pass side up, Tan was pass side down, don't know what the Black wire does... The small Grey wire might be for the lights that show up inside the buttons? It tested hot, but it's too small to carry much load. I managed to pop off the window toggle switch buttons and spray "Contact Cleaner" into the switch assembly as I moved the switches. This solved the problem!!!! I know there are a lot of other reasons and fixes for this same problem, but I'm glad I tried this cheap fix first.

Cheap fixes always feel good. But don't be surprised if the problem returns and possibly at an inopportune time. Like when it's about to rain and the window is stuck down. It's been my experience that once a switch starts giving you trouble it will continue/return until it's replaced with a new one. Good luck.
