Cargo cover...can you find them?

Hey all. I'm curious if there's any cargo covers available for the 92 Geo? If not, then I might just make one...I'm sure it's not too hard to rig up something. I want to install a amplifier and sub in the trunk in the near future, but need to get a cargo cover first, so that no one knows (when the car's parked) that there's something valuable in the trunk of the car. I know there are cargo covers that were stock for the car, but they're probably VERY RARE to find, if you can even find them at all...

Good morning Danman! I feel your pain on the rear cargo cover! I got fed up looking for one and decided to make my own. I figured It couldn't be that hard and I ought to at least try. Anyway, I took a bunch of measurements and cut a template out of heavy cardboard. It fit so well I glued some grey fabric onto it and glued a long dowel across the back to support it in the slots in the side panels. It turned out GREAT! I just haven't rigged lift strings to raise it up when the hatch opens. Don't think I need them. It was easier than I thought and looks better than I thought it would. It looks factory!! Dan.. you can DO this! You will be so impressed with your skills, you'll be showing it off to anybody who will stand still for a few seconds. I used heavy cardboard fro an appliance box, like two thicknesses of cardboard. Probably 1/4 paneling would work fine too. I used some grey fabric from JoAnn fabrics that is a perfect match. I used 3M spray adhesive to glue it on (minimal skill level there) and liquid nails to glue it to the dowel! NO FEAR .. You can do it! DangerDude

Here's some pics from another fellow who built his own cargo shelf. Turned out pretty nice:

Well I changed my mind. I'm going to first try to see if I can get an original cargo cover. However, I need the side pieces, that fit in around the rear seat belts, that go on each side of the cargo cover/security shelf in order to use the security shelf. I just found some at my local pick-n-pull, from a Suzuki Swift. They're black, but in mint condition. I got the two side pieces for $8 total. I also found a spare tire bolt to hold the spare tire down. Anyway, yeah, decided to go with the stock cargo rack.

I got a cargo cover at the pick a part lot, and have seen one or two others since. I would look for one in your area.

Just an update, but my local picknpull has no cargo covers....the whole lot only has 2 Geos, and they're both pretty much stripped. There was only one Suzuki Swift.

Anyway, I was able to get a cargo cover off Ebay for $47 plus shipping, which isn't TOO bad, since it's the only thing that covers what's in your trunk (subs, amp, etc).

So it's a worthwhile investment to even spend $47 on a cargo cover.

But anyway, I think I got my sub and amp picked out. I'm getting a Kicker 10" L7 subwoofer, and a Kicker amp, probably a 400 watt 2-ohm mono amp. I don't want anything that'll put too much stress on the alternator, since I know these cars can't take much in amp draw. I always install a capacitor though, usually a 1 farad.

More updates to follow! I also recently installed a new head unit (Pioneer 3900MP).
