I have a 01 grand am....and my heater motor keeps burning out...this is the 2nd time now since i bought this car havent even had it for a year yet....i just took it to a windshield place they told me the windshield does not need replacing...but the car has a poor design and the water falls right into my heater motor...they told me i could use foam or silcon to divert the water...any suggestions?

Wlecome to AF.

Thiers a couple places it might leak, or that might cause a problem.
The first thing to check it the HVAC drain on the firewall.
Here is a picture of that (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/auto%20odds-ends/HVACDrain.jpg).

The second problem is thiers a piece of foam missing under the black panel under the hood where the HVAC draws in air. Here is the GM bulletin on this.

Front Carpet Passenger Side Water Leak

Owners of some 1999-2001 Alero and Grand Am models may comment about a mildew odor, windshield fogging,
or wet carpet on the passenger side.
And in ambient temperatures below 32° F,
the blower may not operate due to ice.
The foam water dam under the black beauty panel may be mis-positioned, missing, or not adhered properly.

On vehicles with foam mis-positioned or not adhered properly Remove and discard the original foam
part. Clean the metal surface with an alcohol based cleaner.

Install the new part, properly center-ing the part over the HVAC air intake opening.
On vehicles built without a foam dam and old style
beauty panel Install 18 mm foam.

On vehicles with no foam, or with 18 mm foam and
new style beauty panel Install 25 mm foam.
- Thanks to Ray Romeo

BTW thiers no need to post more then ONE thread on a subject, and could be mistake for spamming
