3.8 engine compatability question

What engines will work in a 96 windstar van with a 3.8l engine? I have to replace the engine and from what I hear need to avoid the engine that is the culprit as don't just want to put a bandaid on the problem. :banghead:

A modern salvage yard will be the best source for that information.
They will have that information on their computer.
