Replacing the seat foam

I have a 2000 Windstar SEL with leather power seats. Beings I am a bigger guy, the foam has broken down and there is no life left in it. I was wondering if anybody has ever tackled replacing the foam cushion in the seat, and what do I need to do to get it out? I see Ford has several sets available for around $60. Would I be better taking it to an upholstry shop and having them do it or should I buy the foam and try it myself?

I have a 96 with leather and my driver seat is getting worn. Where did you see the foam for the seat? Also I wonder if oem set covers are available? I have checked the online dealers.

I'm also curious where you've found a source for foam seat inserts.

While I haven't worked on leather seats before, I have pulled cloth upholstery off of auto seats to repair seat frames. The job can be time-consuming, but isn't terribly difficult. You'll spend some time dealing with all of the wire rings they use to lock down the upholstery - have several pairs of decent pliers in different shapes to get access.

I'd count on removing the seat entirely - it's much easier to deal with it out of the vehicle. Take your time: Rushing is a sure way to rip/tear/break something.

Look under collision parts. They are cheaper than going to the dealer!!!
