Brake Greases for 99 Windstar

Guys,

I'm going to do a front disc brake job on my 99 Windstar which is a 3.8 liter engine. I'm going to use the Akebono ACT803 pads w/o shims. Becuase I'm not going to use shims I'm going to put CRC Disc Brake Quiet on the back of the pads.

I was going to use some Motorcraft Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound (Part # XG-3-A), since I already have some, on the caliper slide pins and other brake hardware. However, many people recommed a Molybdenum Disulfide & Silicone grease instead because it's breakdown point occurs at a tempature around 500 degess or more. It says the Motorcraft can withstand tempatures upto 300 degrees. I found a product called "Squeak Relief Universal Brake Grease" that contains a Molybdenum Disulfide & Silicone compound. Says it can won't breakdown to 570 degress.

My question is, is it overkill to go with the Squeak Relief Universal Brake Grease and is the Motorcraft Silicone Brake caliper Graese good enough ?

Caliper slide pins require high-temperature grease - but it's not that big of a deal. I've used the packets of green high-temp brake caliper grease commonly available in auto parts stores for years. No problems; slide pins move freely and smoothly at the next pad change. If the Motorcraft grease you've got is designed for disk caliper slide pin use, I believe it will be fine.

I do re-grease caliper pins at each pad change, just to be safe.

In my foolish youth, I once used plain bearing grease on a caliper slide pin. Mistake: It froze up in no time.

Don't over-do the goo!!!!
I had a dealership do that on my windstar, and I was wondering why my brakes were wimpy........found that the goo (can be from the caliper pin grease or, as in my case, the anti-squeal stuff that goes behind the pads) had gotten out onto the friction material....and smeared over the rotors.
