it starts off cranking like its going to fire, but then the cranking slows down for a second. while the cranking slows, the voltage drops to about 10. then it cranks normal for a couple of cycles, then gets drawn down. and repeats. it stutters while cranking. could it be a starter malfunction. when the massive draw comes on, there is not enough spark to ignite the fuel? i hooked it up to a jump starter with 200 amp capacity. even with that there was the lobe during the crank cycle.

I'd check fuel ressure 60-65 psi needed, then look for bad battery connections for the erratic cranking issue.

60 psi. battery connectioins seem good. i went through in nov. and got rid of the double stack pos battery connectors and converted to 1 to eliminate the corrosion problem.

i hooked up a inline spark tester with the #4 plug. getting spark. pulled off the cap and rotor replaced rotor and cleaned cap. sprayed ignition drying agent inside of distributor. still nothing.

I'm having the exact same problem. I was told it could be the fuel pressure regulator (you seem to have good pressure though), Fuel pump (I had one replaced 2 years ago), or the theft system. I'm taking mine in soon to get looked at, so I will let you know what I find out. Please keep me informed too of anything you hear.

i was under the impression that if it is the theft system, you should get the security light. i'm not. i know mine is not the fuel pump because its getting 60 psi to the valve on the intake. the regulator is a possabilty becuase its in the intake from what i understand.

pulled the plugs #4,#1, and #3. all were wet with fuel. i think that eleviates the chance of csfi system being clogged.

turned out to be a hairline crack in the cap.
