FCK FCK FCK FCK FCK!!!

Someone broke into my car, popped the hood, and decided to steal all my bolt-ons!

So, I keep the car outside under a cover for the winter. I try to drive it once a month or so to keep the fluids going. Well, today is a nice day and I don't have work so I figured it was a good chance to finally fix that exhaust leak. Well, I went to take the cover and noticed that the cord and lock were ripped out of the cover, I was like WTF? So, I put the key in to unlock it, but there was no resistance, so I guessed it was already unlocked. I went to start it and the RPMS just start to shoot up fast, so I turned it off. Initial thought was that the opti went bad, so I tried it again, same thing. Then I noticed a liquid hitting the concrete. So I popped the hood and looked, and behold, my intake stuff is gone. All of it. Hoses are everywhere, soaked in coolant. And it even got in my intake manifold.

From what I could tell, they stole:
My throttle body, throttle body air foil, 1LE intake elbow, Granatelli MAF, K&N CAI, strut tower bar, and my radio face plate. They also tried to pop my driver's side valve cover, but I guess they couldn't wiggle it out, but it was sitting funny and missing all 4 screws. And yes, they stole my detachable radio faceplate that I kept in the center console, but left the actual stereo in the dash.
So, that's my shitty day. I have pics, but my dad isn't home so I don't know where the stuff is to put them on the computer. I'll try to post pics sometime when he gets back.
So, I'm a poor college boy and I don't think the Z is covered for theft from the insurance. So I guess all the parts are coming out of pocket. And this is a good chance to get a 52mm TB now and an alarm. If anyone has any of the aforementioned bolt-ons laying around not in use for a 94 LT1 and would like to get rid of them for a decent price. I may be interested. But if anything, I'll just buy most of that stuff again, minus the MAF, I still have all the factory stuff laying around, so I'll just use that. Sorry, for the long post, I'm pissed, angry, and very depressed.

Edit- just editing all the language at the top

That sux, really really sux.

And this all occured right in front of your house?

poormillionaire2
02-20-2007, 03:27 PM
Yeah, right in front. Someone had some balls. It sits at the end of the driveway with the cover on it. But they had to know what they were going for, but only a few friends know what I've had done to it. Its so messed up right now. And I don't have any enemies, at school or at work.
So I made up a replacement parts list, which sucks because I'm buying everything twice. But I am definately buying an alarm once I get the car up and running again. But I'm not sure where exactly all the hoses go, so I may be asking for help a little later. Its easier to put everything back if I took it off in the first place.

hmmm, Maybe just a coinkie-dink,

didn't you just put a few pics up recently and have those parts that were stolen in your sig? Or somebody bring up a thread that had pics in it???

poormillionaire2
02-20-2007, 03:35 PM
Yeah, I did have my mods in my sig for awhile, but I took them down because I didn't want to advertise. But I never posted pics of the engine bay, just pics of the car. But I don't know how anyone would find me specifically. But I did think about that.
I wanna say it was a random job, just someone saw the car out on the street, followed me home, and planned it from there. But its hard to say because they knew exactly what they were going for.

wrightz28
02-20-2007, 03:42 PM
But its hard to say because they knew exactly what they were going for.

My thoughts exactly. Not alot of thieves running around out there with a whole rolling tool chest strapped to their back. It's always either someone who knows you or knows the car.

poormillionaire2
02-20-2007, 03:57 PM
Yeah, but it wasn't exactly stuff that took a lot of work to get too. It was just intake stuff, and it sits up top, front and center. But I got coolant everywhere now and some in the manifold. Will that stuff evaporate to the point where I don't have to clean it out or will I have to clean it? I really don't want to pull the manifold too. When all is said and down with all the stuff that was stolen, and all the stuff that I had planned for this spring/summer, its going to cost me around $2500.

i know the filling buddy my 461 stroker project was stolen causing me to start over again...2000+ down the drain but in a couple of months you will look back and want care to bad maybe you will get lucky and find out who did it though.

poormillionaire2
02-20-2007, 05:22 PM
Yeah, I don't think I'll ever find out who did it. It might have been personal, but I think it was random. Someone could have followed me home one night and started from there. But that's a lot of money I wasn't planning on spending this year. Just a bummer all around. I just placed a bid on ebay for a 1LE intake elbow. I looked it up new, and SLP jacked the price to $75. That's a lot. I might as well get a nice shiny trickflow for that type of cash.

hm. sounds like eithier 1)someone you know
2) someone who knows u
3) someone specialized in f-bodies so they know what looks diff..

call the cops and ask around to see if they know of any chop shops.. also, check the local listing for parts..specially if they're selling just One. or a few. parts that match yours. call the cops on those bastards man..

craigslist is prolly the most popular to put it up on..

poormillionaire2
02-20-2007, 05:25 PM
Yeah, I called the local cops and they had a unit come out and make a report. The office was nice and didn't treat me like some punk teen. But, we'll see what happens. I just want to try and get the car up and running smoothly again as soon as possible.

PM John he has all kinds of stuff sitting around. Its worth a shot.

poormillionaire2
02-20-2007, 08:17 PM
Well, I've spent most of the afternoon shopping for parts and the best prices. I've found a 52mm TB w/ air foil off ebay for $200, a new intake elbow for $66.70, and new K&N FIPK II for $200 and I just bought another strut bar for $75 off ebay. Anyone know of anyplace that can beat these prices?
I'm also stopping by the dealership tomorrow to pick up some hardware that they took with them, the 4 valve cover bolts and the 4 strut tower bolts.

And one more thing, since they popped off my valve cover, do I need a new gasket for them or are they reusable?
Oh, and I got some coolant in my intake manifold, will it be ok after it evaporates or do I have to clean it out?

poormillionaire2
02-20-2007, 08:21 PM
And one more thing, anyone got a write-up on installing a TB correctly? Never done it before and I don't want to miss a gasket or mess up the throttle cable. Thanks again.

02-20-2007, 08:42 PM
Just reading about this even pissed me off, I can't imagine how I'd react if this happened to me, especially after how much I put into mine. I don't have any answers to your questions tho, but I'd think the intake will be fine once the coolant evaporates, either way, it got into the combustion chamber when you started it up before you opened the hood anyway.

poormillionaire2
02-20-2007, 09:15 PM
Oh right, that eases my mind a little. I figured once it evaporated I wouldn't have to worry about it. I'm just worried about hooking everything back up properly. If I dis-assembled everything, I could probably put it back together, but since I didn't, I don't think I know where all the hoses go. My brain is a mess right now. I'm sorry guys for my rambling.
And I really appreciate your guy's support on this shit. Its cool that you guys love your cars as much as I do. I'm sure I'll have more questions soon. But I decided that Thurday, I'm going to buy all the missing parts at once and see what I can do when I get the parts in. I'll try to post pics later this week. Nothing too big though, just an LT1 with no intake. Nothing's really damaged or anything, thank god. Just coolant everywhere. I hope it didn't f-up my opti, or I will be crying.

Man that pisses me off!! I've never had anything on that level happen, but similar stuff. I know how you feel.

I second the notion on talking to John and I would definitely recommend changing your oil (right after you start it up again). I'm sure some of that coolant has gotten past the piston rings and into the oil. As long as all cylinders are firing the coolant (in the intake/combustion area) should burn off after a few minutes (you'll see white smoke out the exhaust).

Good luck with all that.

02-21-2007, 01:23 AM
i have what i was told is a 1le lt1 intake elbow. Im not sure if it is or not because it has the opti vent. i dont know what an lt1 intake setup looks like so its hard to say for sure. shoot me a pm if you can use it.

oh also... an alarm is definitely a necessity, not an option. after spending a few grand on mods, spending ~ $160 on an alarm (& maybe remote start as an added benefit) is only logical.

I made sure to put one on my car... after adding the performance stereo system, engine, transmission, suspension, and other misc parts.

Protect, not only your stuff from being stolen out of your car, but also protect your car from being stolen and abused by some thief. Even full coverage insurance often times doesnt cover a specialty/aftermarket parts unless you specifically add that coverage.

I would recommend a kill switch too.

That stick shit is awesome, especially that animation 'Xiao Xiao 3' is by the far the best.

But I'm definately investing in an alarm. But I need to at least get a throttle body hooked up so I can control the air flow so the engine doesn't rev up when I try and start it. After that, then I can see if the opti got messed up or not. I'm praying that all I have to do is replace the stolen parts and be done with it. And since everything is disconnected, I might as well do the TB bypass thing. I may be asking for help on that one. But I'm going to be buying all the needed parts this Thusday.

I think I used to have comprehensive on my last Z, til I totalled it. So I think my parents switched it over to liability after that. But I don't think that turning it in to the insurance company would really be worth it because the deductable would be $500 and that's about how much the parts are. But I'm definately going to invest in a decent alarm from here on out on all my vehicles. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Well... if you make the connection BEFORE the panel box it'll work like a charm, and it won't interrupt your home service. You'd have to wait for a black-out (or create one for that matter... we are talking about your maro here) and have it all set up for a quick connect, lest the power come back on whilst mid-hookup and you just cooked your own ass and then they have to give your maro away :nono: . Edit 2: And hanging a dead deer in your tree out front overnight (let the carcass cool for those of you non-hunters) tends to cement the violent death upon unsolicited entry image too. Or if you'd rather, leaving blood all over your truck will have the same effect. NRA stickers work well too.

And it sounds like you guys have thought about these 'preventative measures' before. Your experience overwhelms me.

Experience? :lol2: understatement of the year. Let's put it this way, there just so happens to be a garage I know of, very close to my house, that should you get past the electric fence rigged to the door (or just can't let go, more likely :grinyes: ) you'll be deaf and shitting yourself when the dual 36" freight train horns activate straight over your head.

Ideas, garage sales, an unorthadox electrician and boredom = cool anti-theft devices. :evillol: Or flat out good pranks on the unsuspecting :jump3:

Don't worry though, it'll all work out OK. You gotta live and learn. It could be worse, you could be like that knob that ripped you off since he can't afford to get parts the real way.

For alarms, check out www.compustar.com They are quickly becomming the alarm to have, even more so than Viper and the rest of DEI's line.

just to clarify. even with comprehensive coverage, most insurance companies will not cover aftermarket parts (up to a certain value). so if you have expensive TB, heads, intake/exhaust, etc, etc. they wont replace that. However, they will replace it with factory parts. Most wont cover aftermarket parts unless you add that specialty coverage also.

if you have expensive stuff (engine, tranny, bolt-ons, etc) take pics and keep reciepts. that is you best chance to talk insurance companies into replacing your stuff if you dont have that extra coverage. plus you should want to have pics of your accomplishments anyway.

that's what i was saying.

The sad ironic part was that when the weather got warmer, I was going to take some pics of under the hood, since I didn't have any. And a kyeless entry/car alarm was on the list of stuff to do this spring. I was 2 months too late I guess. Such a bummer.

A lift? So you're going to be a doctor then, maybe a gyn? Or even a urologist...lol
A lift isn't all that expensive when you get down to it. A couple grand and that actually pays off in the long run if you use it. My house some day will have one as well... hopefully lol

Well a garage big enough to have one...lol
Could be one of the RV garages I guess.

That's why you build the house AROUND the garage. That's the most important factor. A place big enough to move around, work, store your tools, have a lift or two, and a fridge stocked with lots of cold ones.

So I got up this morning and looked at the car now that I've cooled down a little. I replaced some of the hardware that was taken, just the 4 valve cover bolts and the 4 strut bolts. But I wiggled the valve cover back a little to see if they actually got to the valvetrain and it looked fine, but it looked beefed up. Now, I've never seen stock valvetrain for the LT1 before, so are the pushrods usually that thick and the springs usually that big? Maybe its wishful thinking, but I was surprised at what I saw. Anyways, examined what was taken and some of the hoses, some of the hoses are a tad ripped but everything else isn't so bad. I also taped off the manifold so nothing could get in there. But that's the minor update for now.

instantkevin. I understand. What you state is exactly why people feel they get screwed from insurance companies. With some of my clients that I know are car guys I always ask them what they have or are planning to do to their rides. I explain to them that unless the company has pictures or some sort of proof of the parts, it won't be covered. Most are afraid to do so thinking it'll jack the price but usually it doesn't. You'd be surprised at what insurance companies pay for OEM parts. A lot of the time they'd like to get the aftermarket item because it's priced cheaper.

Thats a real bummer I/m kinda new to 4th gen but i would be looking at a secondary lock for that hood as well as a cut off switch.Bad thing about theft is you don't who to trash.Plus wondering where your stuff went.Hope it works out.Know how you feel my passenger window was knocked out last week in the driveway over night.

What if your insurance company is under the impression that your car is stock? :icon16:

I don't want them jacking my rates up.

(well technically my car is stock... for now.)
