Yeah, its not really worth fighting the insurance company about it. One, all I have are receipts but no pictures, plus the deductible is a tad less than what was stolen, so I might as well just pay it all out of pocket. Good news is I got a guy who might send me his old parts for a good price, so that helps. Hopefully, within the next few weeks, I'll get the car up and running so I can get an alarm installed and shit. Cause right now, its just sitting outside in the same spot with the ripped cover on it.

instantkevin. I understand. What you state is exactly why people feel they get screwed from insurance companies. With some of my clients that I know are car guys I always ask them what they have or are planning to do to their rides. I explain to them that unless the company has pictures or some sort of proof of the parts, it won't be covered. Most are afraid to do so thinking it'll jack the price but usually it doesn't. You'd be surprised at what insurance companies pay for OEM parts. A lot of the time they'd like to get the aftermarket item because it's priced cheaper.
that's cool that you actually experience this stuff first hand. I've known a couple of guys in that exact position. car gets totaled by some non-driving idiot or expensive things get stolen and there's no proof of it ever being there. lots of money lost.
I have a shit-ton of pictures detailing my whole project build, and all my reciepts are in a ziploc bag.
Stepho, all insurance companies will assume your car is stock. I dont think all companies are the same when it comes to aftermarket parts. Just ask them how they handle that stuff. They can't just automatically raise your rates if you say you are thinking about doing some modifications.
I know that you either need proof of the parts you claim to have, or special coverage for aftermarket/specialty parts. And if you add the additional coverage, they only cover up to a certain dollar value. (for my bike, the max is $2500).

FUCK THIS SHIT!
WHY THE FUCK CAN'T PEOPLE GET A FUCKING JOB AND BUY THEIR OWN SHIT!?
So get this, they gave the car another fucking visit. My neighbor came out this morning before I went off to class and told me that her husband saw my hood popped and my cover pulled back this morning at 4:30am. So I gave him a call and he told me what happened, but he didn't see anyone or any vehicles sitting in the street. He thought I just forgot about it and that I was working on my car overnight. So I called the police again and filled out another report. (But I asked and they did try and pull some fingerprints though, but the car is really dirty from sitting during winter.) This time they somehow stole:
Intake Manifold
Computer/PCM
Alternator/Brackets/Hardware
Belt
Fuel injectors
Fuel rails
And they CUT my fucking fuel lines!
So, this is definately too expensive for out-of-pocket now, so when I get home I am going to call the insurance company and see what they can do. $500 deductible is nothing compared to parts and labor its going to take now to get the car up and running. I really feel like crying right now. This is fucking bullshit!

They HAVE to have left some prints someplace.
Dude that really sucks. I would do this... act like you got it fixed, move it, shine it up, etc... then take a nap during the day, drink a bunch of coffee and sit up all night for several nights... they're obvioulsy stupid enough to keep coming back that you would catch them if they thought you had something else to steal. Bait them, and then when they show up... BLAM! 12 gauge to the torso, "officer he said he was going to kill me", you're covered and no-one will mess with your shit.
This country really does suck... They need to cut peoples hands off if they're caught stealing.

I don't know what I am going to do. I'm thinking of having to towed up to my mechanic so its not here anymore. Plus, I want them to put everything back together professionally instead of me f-ing something up. Hopefully, insurance will cover everything minus the deductible, but I'll have to wait and see what my parental units say.
Its somewhat my own fault because I didn't do anything with the car afterwards. But it wasn't driveable though. But it was still a sitting duck. My dad just said that he looked at the Z's policy last week and he thinks it might be covered. In the meantime, who wants to come over and help me push the car into the garage? Any takers?
This is such a nightmare. And its not over yet. I'm considering setting the car up with cameras so I can catch them. This is getting ridiculous.

that's horrible. that's the only thing that could have made the situation worse! I'd be pissed too.
sounds like they're rebuilding somebody's car (or selling the parts). And they clearly dont know that you realize all that stuff is stolen, which is why they came back. so they might come back again. dont move the car. get a wireless motion sensor (from electronics store), hide it in the grass next to the car (or in the car, on the dash, or mounted to the bottom of the hood). next time they come back the alarm will go off in your room (or wherever you are), call the cops. if they try to leave before the cops get there, run out with a big flashlight and camera (get faces and/or license plate numbers). you might want some pepper spray (or gun) too.
I'd try to catch them! if you want to catch them, leave everything as it was.
have you been leaving you hood open or doors unlocked? how are they getting in there?

Well, here's what I just did. My parents suggested to put (or push to be more realistic) the car into the garage and my mom will park her van in the driveway. So I call a friend over to help me. Middle of the day, not too many people available, I was thinking it wouldn't be too hard. So, the idea was to let the car roll into the street, then push it up the driveway and into the garage. Didn't stop to think that the PCM is missing and the battery was disconnected, the first time I stepped on the brakes, the ABS locked them up. So, we had no way of unlocking the brakes to push. So we were pushing against a brick wall. And the car was a sitting duck in the middle of the street. So, with nothing to lose, we jacked up each side and manually pried the calipers off the rotors with a screwdriver. First rule, don't use the brake petal. Luckily, my neighbor came out and helped too. So with lots of grunting, straining, and cussing, we finally got the car in the garage. Now all we have to do is wait for the insurance guy, but I have to call him first. I hate this crap. And my arms are sore.

Well, of course. But we have only 1 garage bay open right now and that one belongs to my mother. So my dad and I park both of our vehicles outside.
So, I turned in both reports to insurance and they said that they will have an ajuster call me within the next few days. Then they will probably come out and evaluate what's left of the car. I'm thinking that its totalled now. :banghead: And that is weighing on my mind like no other. I don't want to lose this Z too. That would mean that in 3 years, I have owned and totalled 2 Z's. That looks really bad. And with all the other stuff I need to pay for, I probably won't be able to get another f-body. With parts being at least $2000 and labor being at least double, there's a good chance that the insurance will total out this Z too. If that happens, I'll probably just buy some unviolated 4 banger because I'll be driving a lot further this fall. It makes me sad to think about. I almost threw up yesterday in class just thinking about it. But if I could, I would get an LS1 f-body. But I seriously doubt that would happen. This shit is so messed up.
Oh yeah, and since they cut the fuel lines, its leaking gas. And its now in an enclosed garage, so the fumes are building up. But I don't want to leave the garage door open to advertise where the car is now. I have to somehow vent the garage when I'm home with a fan, then close the door I guess when I'm gone.

And yeah, people outside of here seem to be rude and ignorant about cars, unless it's the newest civic or accord, then it becomes OMG ITS SO AWESOME. Shit that they worked hard for and play by the rules, just to have it jacked by some low-life. Why are these people allowed to exist? HA! Back in the "old west" if you shot a man dead for stealing your horse, you didnt get hung for it if you could prove they stole your stuff.
Ive had a lot of stuff walk off. Usually its something small like a zippo or a CD or something. If somebody came and stole something like a motor, my stereo, ect i would be so mad about it i would start a pot of coffee and vow to go door to door until i figured out who did it and beat them within an inch of their so called life.
Just remember. As mad as stuff like this can make a person, if you let it anger you your emotions are then controlled by the likes of a thief. Just remember, they will get theirs. ALWAYS.
With a long USB cable and a motion sensative webcam, you can catch the thief in the act. Obviously they know where you live. SET THEM UP!
Leave something "valuable looking" out front and leave it easy to grab. When they come in view of the camara it will record them walking off with your shit. Handy ESPECIALLY if its an inside job. Since the "mystery thief" wasnt caught it makes you a comfortable place for future thefts.
I feel sorry for people like that, they must feel like shit about themselves. sorry you got jacked. Good luck getting everything worked out.

Meh, dont let them total it out...
Not sure if it will help but before the insurance shows up to look at it, i would get a couple different estimates on the damages. Try to find out exactly how much $ damages = totalled for your car according to the insurance company, and make damn sure the estimates are under that number.
I hope the prints point a finger to the thief. They deserve to be caught for this.

Good thing is, my isurance company aren't cheap bastards like some others. When I totalled my last Z, they gave me $5700 for it, but I thought it was only worth $5000 or so. So I don't think they will low-ball me with a BS number.
But the thing with estimates, is the car doesn't run. So I would have to have it towed to my mechanic. And towing can get rather expensive sometimes. I gave my statement to the insurance company and an adjuster will be out sometime within the next week. So I'll know what happens soon.

Yeah, no kidding. Formula PM'ed me saying he has lots of stock parts laying around. The only problem is, I don't know how the insurance company will handle it. And I'm just not in the mood to put it all back together myself. Sure, it would be great feeling after completing the project, but its a project I shouldn't have to undertake in the first place. Plus, there's a lot of little things that I wouldn't know how to go about fixing. Like the cut fuel lines. And I have shit laying there that I don't even know what it goes to. Its like giving me a puzzle without a finished picture to go off of. I hate puzzles too. And I don't want to miss any of the little things, like some of the sensors that might be missing, plus all the hardware I would have to replace. And, since the intake manifold is off, there is a shit-load of debris in the lifter valley. And all that would definately have to be cleaned out. I'll think about it though.

I am willing to bet that the insurance company will cut you a check and say here ya go, then wipe their hands of it. So you will be free to get the parts from where you want. It all depends if you want to go with stock stuff or spend alil more money and get some higher performance stuff.

Well, I got home from class and unexpectedly, the adjusted called. He just left. He took a crap-load of pictures and didn't ask a whole lot of questions. Nice guy though. He said they would get back to me within the next week. I have a feeling its totalled, because the exterior of the car isn't the world's best. I asked him about the buy-back policy and he said it would have to have a salvage title and it would cost me 25% of the value of the car plus the deductible. So, assuming the car is worth $5000, minus the 25% which is $1250 and the deductible, $200, I would wind up getting my car back salvaged and $3550 from insurance. Don't know if that's great for me or not.

I really really really want to get the car back in running shape. But looking at everything from an objective 3rd view, if they total it out, I don't think I will buy it back. Don't get me wrong, I f-ing love f-bodies, but financially with my situation as of right now, it would be more impractical to. I need something good on gas anyways for the longer travel to school next fall. The plan was to buy a 3rd vehicle for the distance thing and keep the camaro and just maintain it. But with it in pieces, I might as well cut my loses with it and just get one in 3 years when I graduate. It can be my graduation present. And its a struggle in my mind EVERY SECOND to think of what I'm going to do with every scenario and it literally break my heart to make this decision, but if it happens, I think I'm just going to let it go. But it will be the worst summer ever for me. Nothing to cruise around in that I can be proud of. But its not over, because I haven't received the official decision yet.

Hey Y'all, I haven't been in the forums lately so am just catching up on the news. So sorry Poormillionair2 - theiving people suck. Am sick to my stomach for you. I have had a few things happen around my place that has had me on the defense a bit. I want to just be proactive and not let it all get to me. It's just stuff, It's just stuff, It's just stuff - I keep telling myself, not like losing people or pets. It's my only way to deal and remain cool and rational and not go climb a tower. So, I am looking into some video surveilance options for phase 1. The rest of the phases won't be spoken of ;-) EVER! (lol) A few old computers and some web cams, along with some free software from zdnet TrackIt Now and Informant are two free software possibilities, Don't know if it will really accomplish anything except for being able to watch what happened after the fact. If nothing else I'll have some great video of some jackweed f-ing with my cars to post in the forum. Peace Out - jj

Wow, that really sucks man. I'm sorry to hear all the bad news. I'd personally hope that they total it, as you won't have a car for a long time if they don't total it. I'd start shopping in the meantime, and see if you can find another Z28 for around the same coin. You may be able to pick up one that was in better condition then yours. You'd be surprised at some of the deals you can get out there.
Keep positive above all things.

Well, they didn't total it. Do I'm in the process of putting it back together. I'm just waiting on the parts to come in, thanks to John (I hope he receives the check soon). I cleaned the heads with brake cleaner today and cleared out some more debris from the lifter valley. I'm waiting to flush it until we are ready to drop the manifold in, that way, it won't be sitting there a chance for more crap to get in there. And I got a couple guys (who I actually went to HS with) from another forum helping me out when I get the parts in. So that's the partial update. Hopefully, then next update will be a completed car. :)
