02 impala overheating

I just got a 02 impala 2 days ago and the day that i got it the blinkers weren't working well we figured out today if we mess with the hazard lights and turn them on and then back off then the blinkers will work any ideas?
I read other forums and read about a hazard switch but autozone cant tell me how much one of those will be

Then my other problem which is more serious to me.. as long as we are driving down the road the car heating stays at about 150 or 160..but in traffic sitting still and having to stop and go it goes up to 200 to 205.. no over heating light ever comes on..we have looked under the hood and there are no fans running at 205.. but when we get back on interstate and can go then it goes back to do 150 or 160.. does anybody have any ideas? The low coolant light came on lastnight and we have put coolant in it..but today it was doing all this..so does anybody have any ideas what is going on with it? In traffic though it stays at 205..no lights ever come on..please help if you have any ideas what this could be..

oh no my friend....take that car back if you still can!.......search around the forums here and you will find you have the leaking intake manifold gasket problem. It will cost you around 850 to get it fixed. You probably should have taken the car to a mechanic b4 you bought it. Make sure you have the gasket replaced with an updated or aftermarket version so you don't have the same problem again.

Wouldnt i have water in the oil if that was the problem??you would have water and antifreeze in the oil but it will have to leak in alot before you would notice it, when it starts to get worst the oil reading will rise up on your dipstick if your motor do not die before that, you should get that gasket replaced right away before you do more damage and itçosts you a whole lot more like my buddies 2003, $1900 to get the thing up and running again.

Well.. what is funny is today i was reading the owners manuel and it says that the car should stay around 200...and when pulling something its normal for it to get up around 250..which the car has never got to 250 and no lights have come on to tell me it was over heating..but by the owners manuel the car is normal and nothing is wrong with it.. a friend of mine he has a chevy truck..and his truck stays around 200..thats normal for his truck.. i thank you for the comments to my question but it seems that there really is nothing wrong with the car and that its fine..

My turn signals were acting up also, I replaced the hazard switch (very easy to do) and haven't had a problem since. I had to get the switch from the dealer. Don't remember the price but it was fairly inexpensive.

Temps should actaully be a little higher than 150-160, they should be around 195, so 200 is just about right. The fans usually kick in at around 230 on this car. If anything I'd say 150-60 is low. The turn signal switch you are referring to probably can only be found at the dealer. In my opinion its probably best to get OEM for this because its an important switch to work properly, also you want it ot last a long time.

I agree with Blazes. Your temp is too low, indicating a possible stuck open t-stat. If you're not using coolant, then your intake isn't leaking. Also, the turn signal flasher is part of the hazard light switch and is GM dealer only. The GM part number is 10359031, retail $44.98

The standard thermostat is a 195 degree t'stat... So running temps about 200 is OK... But running as low as 150-160 is too low... Maybe your t'stat is stuck open??... If you are not losing coolant don't panic (yet) about a leaking intake manifold gasket... Keep a close eye on your coolant level...

If you have the 3.8L engine replacing the t'stat is a 15 minute job... It's harder to get to on the 3.4L motor...

I have an '00 3.8 and it always drives at around 200 or so also. I also had problems with my blinkers not working sometimes, which ended up being the hazard switch also.
