Hi listers

First I introduce myself : I'm french have 4 kids and live in south of France. I own a *set* of american vehicules : http://christophe.salvaing.free.fr/automobiles.htm
Some were sold.
I just purchase a 1st hand 70000 miles 91 TransSport on *mint* conditions (yes !!! :grinyes: )
A have 3 problems :
- transmission pb : when i stop to a traffic light, the engine stalls. It seems it stalls because the gear box dont go back to 2nd-1st and idle. It stays in 3rd ! This gb was never serviced and I just order a transmission filter kit. Do you have an idea bout this issue ?
- the gas gauge works perfectly but the empty gas tank light on when the tank is full ! ! ! Any advice is welcome.
- do you have any other advices or comment about this vehicule ?

Thank you

Christophe Salvaing
ps : All my apologies for my bad english

While not a stranger to AF, now welcome to the Transport forum...
Transmission problem seems more related to TCC clutch that stays engaged : staying in 3rd has no stall effect when stopping. THis can be caused by fauilty TCC solenoid: it can be changed in place:

Empty tank light problem is internal to the instrument panel: an electronic circuit senses the tank level as fed at gauge and decides to pop the light: www.avigex.ca/xport/instrumentpanel.jpg
faulty circuit as well as soldering problems have been reported.
YOu will have plenty of hints about this car idiosyncrasies by browsing through this forum. ALso check Viala's threads (from Paris) he might help you in a more direct way if needed. YOu can use also "send private messages" option to communcate with me in French.
A lot of diagrams are available here:

Ok.

Thank you very much.
I will service the trans first, will add Lubeguard in oil before change the TCC.
You think that install a radiator could improve the trans cooling ?

IN addition to links in first reply, you can remove the connector to disable TCC action and seee what happens nesxt. As kingarthur said in this post:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=371867
he has same symptoms and just disabled TCC...
I do not think an external cooler would solve the problem as it exists now. Disconnect TCC...
http://www.avigex.ca/xport/3T40tccplug.jpg
or change solenoid.

The TCC locks the converter isn't it ? It is going to have a lot of slipage no ?

Yes indeed...this can be considered a temporary solution that keeps the car roadable until you are ready to change the TCC solenoid. SO at highway speed, there is a slight fuel penalty. IN city driving it will not change a thing since TCC does not apply below 80 kmh anyway.

Dear "Sir" LMP

I follow yout advaice and remove the connector to disable TCC action. It works. No problem anymore and slipage is neglageable undur 50 mph.
Anyway I will order to www.rockauto.com a news TCC and gasket.

Thx again.

Hi Paul

Yes ideed, but I found rockauto very reliable cheap and efficient.
Anyway the trans has been serviced (fliter + gasket) and I added 6qt of Lubegard.
I plugged the TCC wiring and it seems the TCC does'nt stuck anymore.

Christophe.
