Now I've done it

I am new here and really have learned a lot. That being said, I need some advice. I was removing the bypass tube from my 2000 3.8 windstar's water pump, as it was leaking at one of the y joints. The pipe snapped off, leaving only a stub in the water pump any ideas as to how to get that last piece out without tearing the whole thing apart? Or am I doomed to just replacing the whole pump at this point?

Hi,
I have only dealt with my '96, but that tube is only pressed in there with an o-ring on it. Grab what is left with vise grips or similar and work it side to side to pull it out. When I replaced my water pump, the new pump had a new o-ring for the bypass tube, and the lower water intake pipe included. I would think a new bypass tube assembly would come with a new o-ring as well. If not, I'm sure Ford will sell you one at a pretty price :)
Good luck

Holy smokes. I'm looking at the water pump removal procedure on my Ford service DVD, and wow, do they ever make that a complicated mess....:screwy:

Yeah it is a pain. But as it turned out, was not quite as bad as I had imagined. I left for the parts store at about 3:00 and was done around 7:00. Once the engine is "jacked up" on the right side you can basically unbolt, install and re-bolt. Changing out the lower radiator hose was a much bigger challenge oddly enough. I bought the OEM hose, which of course was an exact match, but it was one of those deals where you wonder how they ever got the original in there :).
So, if you had to face a pump change, I would not shy away unless you just don't have time or tools. It is one job where you would save yourself mucho dinero.
