SL1 Transmission Issue

My son-in-law has a 96 SL1 with manual transmission. This week he was driving and it became stuck in 2nd gear. Clutch still disengages the transmission but the shift handle, which still moves freely through the various gears, does not actually shift gears. He was not experiencing any problems with it until this happened. Any ideas as to what this sounds like and what the repair cost range might be would be appreciated.

The problem may be in the hydraulics of the clutch system, I know that they get replaced a lot on your model, but it could be a lot of other things , its best that you bring it to a saturn dealership or any gm dealer

Sounds like one of the shifter cables broke.
