tack help....

my car is a 95 cavalier with no tack...i bought the tack adaptor kit from rksport for my car so i could add an aftermarket tack that i bought but i cannot figure out how do hook it up. has ne1 ever added a tack to their car? wat did u do? if ne1 can help i would appriciate it....thanks

I have a 97 cavalier that had no tach,
I went on ebay and found a cavalier instrument cluster with a factory tach. The tach on the new cluster will work even though your car did not originally have a tach, like mine.

There are a few on ebay now, here is the ebay item number: 280069627920.

I wanted to keep the factory look. You can keep your odometer by removing it from the original cluster and installing it in the new one. I had no problem switching odometers, you just have to take the cluster apart. You may not care about that, but I wanted to make sure mine displayed the actual mileage, as it only has 16,400. (got it from my grandparents, they never used it...):)

dude i put a tach in my 01 cav and i had the adapter and the thing still didn't work and i made sure i hooked it up right. i even tried another tach my buddy had. the thing just moved up and down a little and that was it. i just gave up so i put fog lights on instead. lol

caviguy, find your coil packs, theres 2 wire harnesses connected to those, you splice into 2 of the wires in one of those harnesses, the 98 is a hair different then the 95 so im not sure if this will help, but on my 98 (2.2 liter) it was right underneath the very beginning of the intake, right after the throttle body

spud, did you check the see if the adaptor even worked? you could have tried taking a voltmeter to "tach lead" wire on the adaptor, then accelerate and see if the voltage goes up with the rpms

na i didn't try that but i did open the adapter and ohm out the resistors and check the wiring. but i don't have the tach any more or anything. I work at a parts store so i just returned the stuff. thats the one good thing about working at a parts store, no bull s&@# in returning anything.

to help you guys who are new to working on these cars not be so timid. The adaptor is different than the rksport, but you tap into the same wires. Its like a 15min jobber wiring everything up. Not going to lie, i've done this to my own personal vehicle.
