complaint: noisy lifter / correction:________

i have a 94 saturn 1.9 sohc with 120 000 kms on the clock. i knew it had a ticking at 100 000kms so i ran it with 10w 30 and some Lucas...eventually the ticking got worse and was as loud as the General himself hammering away inside the valve cover. :banghead: i thought i had a collapsed lifter. i picked up 8 of them from the local engine shop at $30 ea. CDN. my uncle(re-builds engines for a living) and i pulled the valve cover off and hand checked all rocker arms. the one rocker on the passenger side front of vehicle (exhaust side) had a lot of movement. we began to remove the bolts that hold the rocker rails in place and 3 were only hand tight... (we thought we had broke the bolts because they turned too easy) So we tightened all bolts on both rails...replaced the valve cover and fired it up. silence....sweet silence. for some reason those bolts had come loose and were causing the lifter to jump in its bore everytime the cam spun around. i'm not sure on the torque spec for those bolts but it could be a preventative maintainance to tighten those guys. i would have had about a week before i broke a valve and scored the cam but all is well.:grinyes:
