Traction control/abs light come on

My Traction control off/abs light keep on coming on intermittently on my 2003 LS. I have read elsewhere that the sensors are closely related to the Tire pressure sensor and when I reset the tire pressure through the radio it seems to help. THe problem happens more often during a long high speed drive or after starting on a cold morning. Becuase of this I think it may have to do with the tire pressure.

By the way the tire pressure light comes on if I drive over 140 km/h for a few minutes since I purchased new tires. I think that the shop screwed up on the the sensors when putting the tires back on.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

More than likely one of the abs sensors is acting up, if you reset the the tire pressure sensor system and it comes back these readings are generated by the abs inputs, have it scanned on an abs function scanner for wheel speed sensor inputs.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you think if I wait for my next tire rotation and mention the sensor to them it will fix the problem. Do the tire sensors need to be connected when changing the tires?

I believe the tire pressure system is tied into the abs as it senses different wheel speeds when the tire looses air and has less rolling distance. Again a scan with an abs function scanner may find both of your issues

Max is correct (as he usually is). There is no separate tire pressure sensor. It works off the different wheel speed sensor reading created by the low tire's greater rolling resistance. The only way to isolate the offending wheel is to put it on an ABS capable scan tool.

What's important is that the tire pressure (and of course size) per axle, left to right is identical or the ABS can't do it's thing properly.

The tire pressure indicator uses the same ABS wheel speed sensors, but is less sensitive -- beware, if you reset the inflation monitor when the tires are not inflated identically, it may not help warn you when there is a real issue, and the ABS/traction control may also malfunction.
