Sorry for the bad pic...

I noticed this stuff while looking under my car today... It's kind of sprayed around under the area where the oil filter is and also some on the firewall... It's dark green in color, consistancy of grease... I'm think it's grease from a CV joint?? I didn't notice any obvious tears in the inner boot in this area but I couldn't see all around the boot... I have the 3.8L engine...

Sounds like cv grease, get it up in the air and look at both joint boots.

I jacked up the passenger side and stuck my head behind the wheel... Didn't notice any obvious tears but I could not see all the way around the boots... I should take the wheel off and give it a closer look...

I have the GM Major Guard protection plan with $0 deductible... Think something like this is covered??

mark the wheel roll 180 deg. check again, same with other side if you don't find anything. Might have to feel around the boot and make sure you have plenty of light to see, check seal at both ends well. Don't know the Ans. for the major guard plan. You should check with your dealer on that to be sure.

Yes should be covered.

Yes should be covered.

Thanks! That's encouraging... I didn't want to face a large car repair bill this time of the year with Christmas bills on their way... I'll be calling the local dealer on Tuesday morning... Hopefully they will be in a friendly mood...

I called the dealer today and was able to get the one service manager there who actually is OK and kind of knows his stuff... He told me it's either the CV boot (inner) or the axle seal to the transmission... Either way it is covered by the extended warranty... I have an appointment on Thursday... Hopefully this will be a painless experience with the dealer...
