I drive 1999 saturn SL1 (single cam). After driving few miles, "check engine light" was turning ON and then after about 20-30 miles, it was turning OFF so i hooked up OBD II Code Reader and it gave me the following:
P0401 - EGR flow insufficient.
Could you please guide me how to fix this problem ?
You help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

sounds like you have an egr valve with too much carbon on the pintle. either it is sticking, or the carbon is restricting the flow. you need to replace the egr valve.

sounds like you have an egr valve with too much carbon on the pintle. either it is sticking, or the carbon is restricting the flow. you need to replace the egr valve. Slight rebuttal/input. :grinyes: Prior to going through the expense of purchasing a new unit, I'd strongly suggest that you take the old unit off, and clean it out. The EGR valves are extremely reliable, and rarely 'fail'. The probability is reasonable that you simply have carbon settling on the pintle's base, resulting in the unit not fully closing.
