I recently bought a 96 Mercury Sable LS 3.0, Not a Vulcan but that other one that starts with a D. Its a basic sedan, not a wagon or anything. Anyways, I have looked everywhere, or so "I think", trunk, glovebox, under the dash by the brake and gas pedals, fuse box in around and behind it, no stickers nowhere except on some kind of square plastic thingy that has 5 large numbers. I thought them were the codes for the door but they dont work when I try it. Am I looking in the right place ya wrecken ? Or do I need to look elsewhere? Also can I make my own code somehow not knowing the original code? Thanks you all.

I'm in the same situation recently purchased 96 sable duratec_ I have been told to look under dash between steering colum and gas or brake pedals on plastic ("computer" modules. Was told I need to get a small mirror to look on sides / top / back of modules.

Here's what the owners manula says

When you bought your vehicle, you were given
a computer code that operates the system for
your vehicle. For your convenience, we have
duplicated this code in two places.
The code is:
on your owner’s wallet card found in the
glove compartment
taped to the computer module

Guess we ought to decide the prize for who finds the code first

:shakehead I ALSO HAVE A 96 MERCURY SABLE. HAVE EITHER OF YOU FOUND THE CODE? I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE OCMPUTER MODULE IS. AND I JUST LOCKED MY KEYS IN MY CAR YESTERDAY AND HAD TO PAY THE GUY $30 TO GET IT UNLOCKED. SO I COULD REALLY USE THIS KEYLESS ENTRY CODE. :uhoh:

Get a flashlight and small mirroe (compact or "dental"
Move drivers's seat all the way back and recline it
Stand on your head under steering wheel
Begining at accelerator pedal linkage look toward where steering whhel shaft goes to forewall
Between accelerator linkage and steerig shaft is a metal and plastic box attached to wiring harness. Put mirror behind thei (accelerator side if I remember right) and shine light on it. (if you wear bifocals even more fun)
You should see a five digit code.

Sorry I don't have my digital camera at home this evening - I would send a picture)

Good Luck
