Auto transmission not going into 3rd

I have a 1996 Mercury Sable 3.8 The car starts fine, idles fine, and goes through first gear and shifts perfectly into second. Here is were the problem starts it will not go into third the fstaer I go the higher it revs. by the time I hit 60mph I am close to 6k rpm. New tranny? Ideas?

Hi, Possible direct clutch, But most likely the valve body, Has lost a retainer for the third gear shift valve, Should be an easy fix for any trans shop, as the trans does not have to be removed..Good Luck, Clay.

I have a 1990 sable, i here the sables and taurus any year have problems with the trans. I here they are junk! Is this true?
