Okay well, I screwed up my transmission had that replaced, had my water pump replaced, serpentine, tensioner replaced as well. Since then my Fuel mileage has been going down from what it was, it used to get GREAT gas mileage. (I also started to note that as it's gotten older what looks like dirt with some oil seems to form all over the left hand top side of the enigine.)

Well, earlier this morning it started just like it normally does. I was driving to work and then as I was getting off the highway out of no where it just stalled. I coasted to a stop without the chance to pull off the side of the road it died that fast. From there the service engine soon light popped on and stayed on, after about a minute I tried to start it again and sure enough it struggled like hell, but after some coaxing and giving it some gas it started back up and died... I tried it again and it stablized. On the way to work it stayed on, so right now I'm a little fustrated after putting in almost 3100 dollars into this car. (When it happend I was slowing down and it happend so its not like I was stressing it by any means. Yes, I was going about 75mph but It's not like I do that all the time.)

So, without further adue... I ask that someone at least give me an idea as to where I should be going with this. Scrap, fix, what... I'm almost ready to throw explosive material at this car and end it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome on your first AF post.
Without more info or looking at it it is hard to say on it.
Has your repair shop looked at it or checked it out for you?

But it Sounds like you need to look for a good repair shop.
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

i am never a fan of scraping a good saturn. as MT said, best ask around and find a good local tech. the check engine light is almost always on when the engine is off, only be worried if the light is on with the engine running, be extra worried if the light start blinking.

in my experince stalling on decel is most likey one of two things, TCC solenoid stuck on, not common on saturns(in fact some years had problems with the TCC not turning on...bad o-rings i think, or something) or a sticking IAC(idle air control solenoid), which can be easly cleaned be removing the intake duct and spraying carb and choke cleaner into the air passage just before and beneth the throttle plate.

on my 94 SL1 150,000 miles:

Both times before the alternator died I had two symptoms: the trans started spinning when shifting gears, and then right before the end, there was stalling. There was also a drop in performance. The last gasp was ugly and it is worth fixing the alternator before it dies.

Both times before the catalytic converter clogged I got choking, then stalling and finally backfires. The engine also ran too hot which is a symptom. The Saturn 800 number told me catalytic converters have a 70,000 mile life.

This year I started getting hestitation. The hesitation increased until we got choking and finally stalling. It was the ignition coil, totally corroded. Replacing the one coil made a huge improvement, ended hesitation and stalling, and improved performance. I forgot a Saturn could get to 45 so fast. It also made slightly cleaner oil and slightly better mileage. Only thing, it looks like there are dual coils, two boxes side by side each with two wires to the engine. The mechanic replaced only one. I am going back to replace the other when I get some $

Hope any of this helps
