Hi all. I'm looking at possibly buying a 91 sable for my son. Don't know engine size or what tranny it has. I know it's supposed to have only 75,000 mi. I'm looking for some input on what to look/check for when I go to see it and also does anyone hane personal experiance as to how well the engines/trannies hold up. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

Try every feature, heater, windows, doors, locks, switches, etc. Ask to see maintenace records. If not maintained, the transmission is the weekest part of the drivetrain. If possible, have a mechanic look it over

The 1991 transmissions were a big POS and stay away from if it has the 3.8 under the hood. The 3.8 has problems with the headgaskets costing more than car is worth. If it has the 3.0,that is the good motor and do not die

I disagree, once you get past the head gasket issue, the 3.8 is the best Taurus engine, IMO. Quite a bit of low end torque.
The transmissions are so-so, but keep fresh fluid in them and they aren't that bad.

I've put in two transmissions. rebuilt distributor, radiator"old plastic when
they go can't be repaired. power steering hoses, numerous motor and tranny
mounts. It has had a stalling problem from the time i bought it.replaced motor
pulley.replaced starter. and it gets a whopping 14 miles to gallon. It now
costs$22.00 to go a hundred miles. :nono:
