95Saturn SL2, Won't start unless gas pedal is to the Floor

I own a 95 Saturn SL2, my car will not start unless the gas pedal is all the way to the floor. Has anyone else had this problem? Once I have the gas pedal to the floor it will start and then sometimes die. Or the rpm's will bounce around trying to stay alive while my engine shakes badly. It seems it just can't breathe or is not getting the fuel. I should not have to do this since it's fuel injection. Also,I am getting allot of white smoke out the exaust and am not sure what's going on? Could it be my fuel pressure regulator, fuel injection is dirty? Any help would be great.

I have used 44K twice and it doesn't seem to help and my filter is brand new.:licka: Thanks for the help

Sounds to me like you're getting too much fuel. Sometimes as fuel injectors age, they are unable to hold back the fuel pressure when the engine is not running. Therefore, while the engine is stopped the fuel pressure and fuel leaks out of the injectors and into the comubstion chambers. This creates an extremely fuel rich condition which is solved by opening the throttle wide to let more air in. If this is the case, the fuel injectors have to be replaced.

If you are getting white smoke, this usually means that you are burning coolant/water. Keep and on your coolant level. If you notice that the level is going down, but you have no leaks, you may have water getting into your combustion chambers.

That sounds about right because once I have it started and the car is running it's fine. Thanks for the advice. :grinyes:

Any idea on how to replace or check to see if it is the fuel injectors need to be replaced. I have also tried spraying fuel injection cleaner while opening the throttle which seemed to help a little but not allot.

Again, thanks for the help.

I would measure the fuel pressure with the engine running and leave the gage connected and shut the engine down and watch for a bleed off of the pressure.

I'm not certain exactly how to do this or how much bleed down is normal.
Maybe some other forum members know better than I do

Good luck

sounds like you need a coolant temp. sensor and possibly connector. it's flooding the engine. with the pedal to the floor, it cuts the fuel. called clear flood mode.
