this engine light has been on for a month or more..the autozone guy didn't tell me nothing.other than

System too lean BANK1
System too lean BANK2

what do these mean? and what should i look for? the autozone guy told me to go to some other guys who have a better reader...wtf!

as a aside i noticed today while waiting for a light this morning the van did something really wierd. It was almost shaking and moving. the break pedal vibrating...almost pulsating...not sure if it could be the ABS acting up or what...it did this a few months ago too...not sure if this is atall related to the amber engine light.

Do a search for P0171, P0174. It's the all too common isolator bolt induced vacuum leak.:banghead: Good news is, it's a relatively inexpensive and easy fix.

well boys took this to another shop locally. this is what was read

P0171 - INTAKE MAINIFOLD GASKETS

upon my asking they did tell me that ford had issued a TSB on this. would ford fix this for free of charge?

this is a windstar 2002 bought used.

that is a pretty good walkthrough..with the copy of the TSB!

with my limited automotive repair knowledge i am willing to bet this is my problem. the guy @ autozone said sys too lean bank 1&2 and the guy @ the other shop only gave me P0171 i am going to get it fixed from a third shop..he said he would diagnose it again.

i would do it myself or try! but this van still has warranty for another 10k and i might aswell use it that is why i have to take it to this third shop.

well i'll update on how it turns out...taking it in wednesday.

on the site he mentions spark plugs u might want to change but never mentions them again. would it be a good idea for me to tell the mechanic to change the spark plugs if there is any inside!

Make sure to read that TSB carefully to see what parts apply to your year. For example the TSB calls for changing the valve cover but your 2002 should have come with the redesign already. I think a couple other items only apply to specific years as well.

yes i will remind the mechanic that there is a TSB out for this...hopefully he has access to it! its a pretty decent shop..i think they would have it..

back to spark plugs and wires change them? does this van even have distributor cap and wireS?

HI
No distributor, just the wires from the coil pack to the plugs.

well well....the codes were both 171/174. thanks to this forum for making me see...what many mechanics and their OBDII readers couldn't!

this is what the final bill looks like

Gaskets(intake) [email protected]
Gasket(intake) [email protected]
sealing bolts [email protected]
Engine Valve cover 111.41

then there is some 'tune up' costs
spark plugs [email protected]
Ignition wires [email protected]
Ignition Coil Assemly [email protected] ----the mechanic showed me a little crack in the white plastic...did i get jacked here?:uhoh:

anyway total bill 957 canadian with tax...parts 627 labour 212

i remember lewisnc100 said i might have the new valve cover but i guess not....thanks ford. if i had money i would sue YOU!
