After alot of looking and troubleshooting, I have finally figured my Daughter's Sable out. It was the PCV hose, it was a 14 dollar part from ford. Grandma had been driving the car for month's with warning light on. It had been looked at several times by other shops, codes said bank1 and bank2 lean. Anyway, very hard location to locate and car is doing great. I hope this helps someone.

Most "grandma's" are terrible with the OBD2 cars. They are old school and figure "If it's running okay, it's nothing major to worry about." What they Don't realize is untreated "minors" can easily become "Majors" if ignored. I tend to shy away from buying cars from elderly people for that reason. Granted, my dad is well into his 60's and he takes excellent care of cars. First sign of trouble he takes it to the shop to be fixed. But not all of them are like dad. Just about every vehicle I've bought used I bought from a mechanic because I know odds are really high that they took care of it.

My 96 Sable had the CEL come on about a week ago, I tested it and reset it and it was a P0430 Code (Bad Cat) Tested the cats with an infrared temp scanner and it was running about 150 degrees hotter at the outlet then the inlet (sure sign of a bad cat). I don't have the money to fix it till friday, but that's about how long I usually drive a car on a CEL, 2 weeks MAX! But that's just me!

What temperature should you be reading for a good catalytic converter?
