Sl1 electronics problem

I've been having a electronic system problem with my 1996 SL1.
It is like the entire electrical system turns off. What I mainly notice is that the clock resets and all the radio preset are lost when I start the car.
More troubling is that a couple times in the past week, the shutdown occurs while the car is running -- at which point everything shutdown including the engine. Everything comes back on immediately and I am able to restart the engine with no problems.
Any ideas??

Check battery cables and remove corrosion.
check aternator connections for possible short
check main system grounding cables, don't forget about the one under the air box intake, sometimes battery corrosion works its way down there, out of site because the air box obstructs visibility.

Had some work done a couple of months ago, mainly tune up stuff -- spark plug wires, etc. The problems I described was happening once in a while before I had this work done.

yeah, you want to check all your battery connections, to start, alternator, fuse box, ground. thats the first thing i would check into.

Check The Instument Panel Junction Block I Have Seen Alot Of Terminal Tightness Issues There.go In From Drivers Floor Area And Unscrew The Connector Bolt (7mm) Then Inspect For For Corrosion Or Signs Of Arcing.
