MIL Lamp Output Fault Detected

Hi folks,

I picked up the Autoenginuity Ford Enhanced module yesterday and have been playing with it. I noticed that the "MIL Lamp Output Fault Detected" field is set to 'yes' (bit field, 1 = yes).

I can't seem to find anything in the Ford service manual on it. Does anyone know what it is? The light itself works as evidenced when the key is on. Does this just signify that the lamp is not illuminated?

Malfunction Indicator lamp. I think it has something to do with the Evap emissions.
Or gas cap off lamp.

...there we go, I was thinking it was the little pic of the engine that shows up during emissions faults. I'll have to check the manual for it and see if the bulb is out or something.

Interesting you bring up EVAP. I just tried running evap and it only got to about 30% before it failed saying either the gas cap was missing or there is a big hole in the system. Yikes!

And speaking of which, while performing the Evap Leak test, it set a B1249 Blend Door Failure code which it keeps setting too (but no check engine light). I'll have to see what's up and if there is a relation between the two...like vacuum.

It told you, you have a blend door problem. WOW if ford has somthing like this I dont know why people have problems. I guess that tells you Fords out to make money in there dealerships. as four your evap- MIL I think there is a TSB and I will try to find that. Gary..... pulled 0398 TSB up for ya

Hey Gary,

Thanks again. I got my scan tool from AutoEnginuity.com BUT I really bought it off their ebay store (same guy, different price). $50 cheaper from him on ebay. I bought the base model which hooks up to all cars but I didn't get the info I wanted from the IAC and Power Steering Pressure Switch so I bought a software add on from the same guy called the "Ford Enhanced" or something like that. Let's you access over 400 sensors from just the powertrain alone as well as a bunch of other modules in the car like instrument cluster, ABS (yes, has the service bleed), etc.

It is true Ford is out to make cash in the shops. However, Ford seems to have released the most info to aftermarket guys who make scan tools because their sensor set seems to be the most complete. There was an issue about that a few years ago where some Gov't agency was looking into the issue of car manufacturers not releasing information on fixing their cars meaning only a dealer could fix it. I'm glad for tools like the autoenginuity scan tool and their Ford enhanced pack.

Thanks for heads up on the TSB....I never thought of looking for that yet....will keep my eyes open....
