hey guys I got a 91 5 speed and here are its symtoms leaning toward ecm:
wont start with key but will start with gas or ether.
It takes a minute to get it to idle but when it does it idles good but when I take off and I am driving it is real hiccupy and boggs down and the service engine soon is on. Could the ecm also cause it to run crappy and bog down even after started.
Clicking under dash at key turn
Anyways this is the symtoms and like I said I am leaning toward getting the ecm rebuilt from a guy off ebay. Let me know what you guys think. Also any other recommendations for me to do to get it running good and reliable?

I think it would be a bad idea to jump into buying any parts until you've done a little more digging. :2cents:
What is the code from the check engine light? There should be a post somewhere on how to get them from your vehicle, but I think this is how you do it:
connect a jumper wire (paper clip is often suggested) between number 2 and 3 terminals of the Check connector, next to the battery.
Turn the key to "on", but not start.
Your check engine light will flash once, then twice. It will do this 3 times. This is the car telling you it is starting the test. It will do this again at the end of the tests.
After this first set of "12's", it will flash the code of your first malfunction 3 times, (let's say 5 quick flashes, then 3 quick flashes, a code "53")
If you have any more codes, it will continue through the list.
When it flashes another "12", test is over.
The example code above, "53", is bad ground at ecm, or bad ecm.
If you get this code, you should clean up your grounds at the ecm and the ones to the engine block. Then clear all your codes. (should be a post here for that, too.)
If that doesn't get rid of that code (if you have gotten it, in the first place), then maybe you should get the new ecm.

Take the wire of off the fuel injector and put a multimeter on the fuel injector part going into the ECM if you have no pulse or electricty showing on the multimeter then you need to replace or have you ECM remaned. I didn't have a trouble code from the ECM but I sent it to a guy in MN for 60 bucks got it back plugged it in and bam it ran like a champ.

I had a 91 tracker that would run fine but would not start. We would pour gas in the throddle body and it would start up. I installed a snowmoble primer and would use it instead of lifting the hood to start it. after about a month it took longer and longer for the engine to settle down and run right after startup. I had the guy on ebay rebuild my ecm ( about $65.00 and five days ) and its run fine since then. There are two circuts in every car one to start and one to run on.

White smoke means you are burning water.
You probably have a blown head gasket. You can confirm this with a compression check, or you can check to see if there is oil in your water, or water in your oil. It will probably be murky, bubbly and very dirty looking. Stick your finger down in your radiator water, and see if it's oily. Your oil will probably be gray, but may not be. The symptoms will be the same as those you posted in the first place, so I'm quite sure this is the problem.
This is an expensive repair, but it needs to be done now. Much more damage if you wait. I suggest you do it yourself, with help, if you can get it.
They are not easy to change, but you could do it yourself if you take your time; and you label everything that comes off, and where it came from, so you know where to put it, when you have to put it back on.
Let me know if I can help you through it.

well I started it again to monitor the vehicle and after about 10 minutes it stopped smoking completly and never had an overheat or even close!! I shut it off and checked the oil it was the same as before looks to be normal color and the coolant isnt oily either. As I stated before it wasnt doing this before the new computer so why now only think I can think of is after I uninstalled the comp I washed the engine bay and my into was not bolted to my throttle body so I might have got water in it? After checking all that I have went back out and started the car 4 more times and it hasnt smoked again yet??? SO whats up?

Sounds Perfect!
(but don't wash your engine with the intake off, anymore! LOL!!!)
Really can't believe that it turned out this good! Can you fix my car? Better yet... Can you pick my lottery numbers? Not kidding!!!
P.S. : What you did was the "water injection 'top engine clean'". Smoke follows!
Same thing happens when you buy an engine cleaner like "sea foam". You cleaned your whole top end of carbon and deposits, probably.
Do a "search" on sea foam.

Your lucky you didn't hydrolock your engine. Water doesn't compress easily takes this as lesson learned never ever get water into the intake. I usually use a trash bag and cover the intake for what its worth.

Glad to hear it is up and running again.
