2001 SC-2 please help

Ok in 2005 I purchased a 2001 Saturn SC-2 with 38000 miles. No problems until 2006. I have already replaced the serpintine belt (however you spell it) anyways i now have a thumping noise in the drivers side tire, however when i had it inspected they said nothing was wrong so they rotated the tires and now it is worse. Second when putting into reverse, drive, or turning on the heater, fan, or air conditioner I get this clanking noise almost sounds like something is hitting the fan belt. However sometimes if i am sitting at a red light and the car is idling it will make this noise. rarely does it ever make this noise if in park and running. Please help me what could this noise be? When ihad it inspected one person said it was in the engine someone else said they think it is a wire hitting the fan belt. Anyone ever had this problem or any suggestions?
