dash lights flashing

Driving home last night, my dash lights started to go from dim to bright repeatedly. Is it possible that a weak battery could cause this? I'm pretty sure that the battery is original from 2000 and I have been expecting to replace it anyway. I have heard about interior lights and gauges having gremlins, but I am hoping that this is just the battery on its way out. Otherwise, the van starts and runs ok. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

is it the back lighting only? have had bad dimmers on the vans - try to roll the dimmer very fast all the way a couple times and then leave it in a different lovation than you had it - if it is the problem they should return to normal

I was hoping to find someone with the same problem as mine on my '96 Windstar which is that my dash lights, noticeably my clock, repeatedly cycles from dim to bright which is because an outside light (parking lights) are turning on and off. The interior light should go dim when the outside lights are on, as it is normally nightime and this is so your eyes will not be overwhelmed by the brightness of the clock light. I can hear a relay clicking someplace under the dash which is probably turning on the parking lights. This will continue for some time even after shutting off the ignition switch. Any ideas?
