DRL's won't go off...

On my '96 SL2 the other day I noticed that the daytime running lights were on even with the parking brake on. (not supposed to be) Also, when I turn on my headlights, the DRL's remain on. If I turn on the brights, the low beams go out as normal, but one DRL goes out while the other one turns on bright.

Could there be a bad switch or wire problem? I was thinking first it might be the switch on the parking brake, but that wouldn't explain them staying on when I turn on my headlights. Could anyone help?

ok what i did with my drl is i took out the relay and bent one of the prongs that had 2 of them on it (length wise) and that turns them off with out messing up anything. you just have to remember to turn on your headlights when it is raining outside.

Well I don't want them to be permanently off, just to function correctly. The DRLs are a safety feature, not just a cosmetic feature. I will replace the relay because the headlights function correctly when the car is turned off.

well to some people drl's arent a safety item because they say they are blinding since they are on the high beams, yet the light is very dim. it was basically made for canuckians:lol:.

but of course many people protest saturns drls. im sorry, but any saturns drls ive seen are so dim, if they blind you, you shouldnt be driving.


now to your problem. this sounds very strange. my only thought right now is, has someone messed with the wires on it? im looking at schematics and cant quite put it all together with all the different circumstances.

I'm pretty sure it's a bad relay. I just noticed it one day and no one had access to the wires. I bent the one prong out of the way as a temporary "fix". Now both the brights work as normal, just with no drl's. I'll be replacing the relay soon. Thanks guys.
