Fast Idle 2003 Windstar

Recently my 2003 Windstar 3.8L maintains a fast
idle after starting. No trouble starting , just the idle
stays high. Sometimes if I wait long enough, maybe
up to four or five minutes it will come down. Sometimes
it doesn't. Any ideas?

Start with simple and easy: The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is noted for getting sticky. If yours is stuck open, it will cause a fast idle.
The valve is easy to remove and clean (or simply replace). It's attached to the engine's throttle body.
