I decided to put this here because my last thread about it was here and some people wanted some photos. If the mods feel it needs to be in the photo section no big deal.
Anyways, I just got back from the MB training center in Rancho Cucamonga. It was a great 5 days and actually really relaxing not being at the dealership for an entire week. The instructors were really cool and mellow. The first thing they said when we arrived was that this class "was just a bunch of car guys talking about cars". They created a really relaxed atmosphere and we had a lot of good laughs. They also told us we wouldn't be here if we weren't the best of the best so we could be trusted with anything. All the students were given keys to the training center and we were able to go anywhere we wanted. I even caught a glimse of the new CL (216 chassis). It looks alright but AMG definitely needs to toughen it up a bit for me to be interested.
I didn't know their policy on photos but one of the first things our instructor said was that we were encouraged to take photos. They even handed out disposible cameras to the guys who didn't have digitals. A lot of techs that come thru the training don't see SLR's very often so they were told to take pictures of certain procedures so they have atleast something to go by. I, so I'm told, have Jay Leno's SLR waiting for me on Monday so we'll see how that goes. :frown:
So here's some of the more interesting photos I took. I have a bunch more so if there's something you want to see that's not here just ask and I'll post it. :)
First up, just a racked SLR. Special lifts are required that bolt into the body in order to lift the car even. If they're not used you may crack the body...which then needs to be sent to England to be repaired.

Not really a chance of me seeing him. The dealership is building a brand new service facility and to make room they had to move half of the technicians to a satellite location in west LA. That's where I work and where the SLR rack is located. Plus, high profile actors like that usually have someone to take care of their cars for them...like scheduleing appointments and pick-up & delivery.

Super neat. It almost killed my computer(56k) but well worth it. Absolutely a beatiful machine. But what I do not get is why they ran the fuel crossover line under the drive-shaft. I know it is unlikely for it to be damaged but still don't think it's a great idea. But I am just an average common sense joe with some auto/truck knowledge.

Couldn't tell ya about the driveshaft thing. Weird stuff happens when German and English engineers get together. :screwy: But that rubber connector in the middle is pretty stout. You could probably hang off it if you wanted to. :icon16:
Today was my first day back. And as promised I had an SLR waiting for me. It wasn't Jay Leno's like I thought it was going to be. It was Kayne West's...hip-hop guy I guess?? First for me....it took damn near 5 hours to replace an alternator. Jesus that thing is tucked away tight. Oh well, experience makes for quicker repairs so it shouldn't take long for me to get the hang of things. Right now it's all about getting familiar with the car. I'll worry about speed later. :)

if you look closely, there's a thing that goes just under the driveshaft that would stop it hitting that connector.

Why on earth did it already need a new alternator already??? My car's had the same alternator for ~10 years or so. New carbon brushes maybe, but a whole new alternator?!?

Oh, it wasn't a bad alternator. It's just a recall we're doing to all of them. The car gets a new alternator, updated air duct, & a heat shield. I think they were frying some on the track so they recalled all of them before they failed on customers.
So I took it for a spin today. HOLY SHIT. The guy from Top Gear said it best...the exhaust sounds like the "God of thunder gargling with NAILS". But he forgot the supercharger whine!!! The car is just insane, no other way to explain it. But you can tell it was meant for the track. The throttle just POPS when you hit it and you can feel everything in the road. Not to mention the attention it gets. Here's something new.....I actually ENJOY going to work!!! :naughty:

Kanye's a narsicistic bitch, so he spent several million dollars (really, several million) to have an artist make a painting of black God reaching down and touching a naked Kanye on the cieling of his mansion... symbolising his god given...wealth....or something about not dying in a car crash that he was at fault with to begin with...
and i'm not joking... it's on VH1's Fabulous Life of...

i liked (most of) his first album. but he needs to drop the whole "ooh, white people are opressing us, they don't want us to eat" oh get over it. i bet he's never had any experience of racism or opression or anything.
he needs to drop it, it pisses me off.

my friend (he's jewish) was actually talking about Kanye the other day. he said something that made me laugh, and was so true...
"That guy doesn't realise that i can relate... I can! I mean, Jews were the niggaz of the world more times than once in history... you don't see me spreading hate about it"

Narcisistic.... GOD YES
Found god after car crash... not really, more of a "Damn I'm not invincible" moment
Talks about dying in car crash.... not so much anymore
Talks about white oppression.... Could be taken that way
Talks about us (black people) needing to get our ish together.... more than you probably realize
Talks about how much people hated on him in the past... yes
Talks about a nice array of subject matter that is better than his "commercial" offerings... yes
Likes to think of himself as the underdog not given a chance... definitely
Again, narcisistic.... most definitely
My contribution to thread hijacking.... over :)

Political? I guess. Seems more appropriate for music forum, but the type of discussion that has started is somewhat politically toned.
And I said I wasn't contributing any more to this hijack... dizamn.
