Whats the fastest man has supposedly gone? Mach 9 is the death point right? Or is it 9 G's of force kills you? Or is that saying the same thing.

Well last time I checked the land speed record for one-mile was 1,227.985 km/h (763.055 mph) in a super sonic car. the record for air speed is mach 9.6 for a jet-powered aircraft.
and to 2.2- Are you sure it was mach 4 that guy went? Because mach 1.05 is 800 mph so mach 4 is like 2880 mph!!
but then again the speed of sound varies by temperature and humidity so for example on a day with 30% humidity and approximately 65 degrees the speed of sound would be 768.2976 MPH, so mach 4 on that day would be 3,073.2 MPH
But this thread just keeps going from one topic to another.

I would trade my brand new car just to have that engine sitting in my garage. I would then be the happiest man you will ever see biking to work.

Maybe he was in an sr-71 blackbird. That thing is pretty damn fast, it might do mach 4, I know it can hit mach 3.
Re-entry for space shuttle is waaay faster tho, so Mach 9 won't kill you unless you are outside. Maybe sustained 9 g's, but people in car crashes have brief periods of like 100 g's.

Or you could always go with the X-43A which is capable of doing mach 10!! and back in 2004 set the record at mach 9.6 nearly 7,000 mph. http://www.nasa.gov/missions/research/x43-main.html there are some videos of it on that link.

See this link: http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/srspec~1.htm (http://www.wvi.com/%7Esr71webmaster/srspec%7E1.htm)
Until recently, the fastest plane ever flown is the SR71. Mach 3.2. Your source is lying. And I HIGHLY doubt he's flown the X43.
And Mach number doesn't correspond to the MPH in a linear fashion; but I'm not sure of the exact relationship.

*Hangs head in shame for relative incompetence*
Mach 9 is a speed. G's are G force, relative to gravity. 9 G's will make most people (except highly trained fighter pilots) pass out almost immediately; even those trained can only take it for a few seconds.
Note: title of thread changed to denote juicy conversation.

Air speed records = juicy :uhoh:
If we start talking about high pressure gas turbines and rocket engines you might have to change the name to SLR Trng photos-technical, (56k death) - and XXX conversation (parents highly cautioned)

someone was unsure of the SR-71 Blackbird's speed? unofficially, that thing is said to reach speeds of almost Mach 7 (i remember from when i went on the Intrepid Museum in the city)
