Intake Tuner Purge Valve

Just wanted to know if anyone heard of an Intake Tuner Purge valve? Is there another name for this device? I'm having problems with idling and the 2 IMRC valves are not working properly and I was told that this valve controls both devices or has something to do with the IMRC valves not working.

Thanks
DIon

Well - since no one else has jumped in (and I hate to see threads with 0 responses).

I've never heard of an Intake Tuner Purge valve.

However, the intake runners on later Windstars are also commonly known as tuned intakes.

I suspect the IMRC solenoids aren't working correctly. The Intake Manifold Runner Control opens and closes a set of butterfly valves that control engine airflow, usually based on RPM. If the solenoids fail, the valves will be stuck in one position.

Do you have further information? What year and engine (3.0l or 3.8l) is your Windstar (I'm guessing you have a '99 or later 3.8)?

Thanks for the reply!!!
My van is a 96GL, 3.8L, with 200+KM. It is the module which controls both the IMRC VAcuum Actuators (they both remain closed regardless of RPMs). I usually call it an IMRC valve, but ford had it listed as a Perge Valve, or at least thats what the parts guy called it. Just wanted to make sure I was getting the correct part before starting the repair.

A frequent poster, 'wiswind', has a '96, IIRC, and has done quite a bit of work on it. Hopefully he'll see this and chime in with his background.

OK.....was not on here for a few days.
The IMRC is open with no vaccum to the actuators and is closed with vaccum to the actuators.
With the engine OFF, there is NO vaccum, the IMR is OPEN
When you start the engine, there will be vaccum to the actuators, and they should close.
As mentioned, very common failure is for one of the actuators to develop a leak, and rob BOTH of the actuators of vaccum to operate, and the runners stay open.......setting a IMRC stuck OPEN code and light the CEL.

The actuators get their vaccum from the IMRC vaccum control solenoid, which is mounted to the back of the upper intake manifold.
The PCM sends a signal to the IMRC vaccum control solenoid to control the vaccum to the actuators.
Write down the VIN and give it to the parts people so that you are sure to get the correct part. It seams that they may have made some mid-year changes, so you want to make sure that you get the correct part.

The part I got was indeed an IMRC vaccum control solenoid. I replaced it, the van idles perfectly, the CEL is off and the Oil Pressure light no longer flickers due to the low RPM's.
Thanks
