I purchased a 2002 Impala at auction - the radio and CD player appear to be working fine, but there is no sound. Anyone had similar problems? Any tips on the wiring?

that is strange to say the least. see if there is a mute button. look in the trunk , up where the speakers are , see if you see a powher amp. my 2oo3 had one from the factory. if it does i can shoot you the wiring schematics, should be close. is yours a 3.4 or 3.8

I checked the amp in the trunk - everything is connected. Can you send the wiring schematics? Then I could check for power at the amp.

I was not able to locate any mute button

There may not be a mute button.
OK when I get home tonight I will scan the schematics and put them on a web site and post the download link that will be active for 30 days.

I got the radio working - but it led to another problem . . .

The power wire running from the radio to the amp had corroded through under the passenger's seat. Got the wire fixed and the radio works great.

The problem found was a water leak. I'm not sure where it is leaking or how to fix it. Basically what I know is that when it rains, there is a puddle of water in the floorboard on the passenger side. I've sat in the car while it is raining and can not see or feel any drips or leaks around door or windows. Can it leak through the engine?

Any ideas on where to look or what to do??

I do not envy your job of having to find the leak. Do you park on level ground ? do you have a sun roof ? you may wan to sit in the trunk with a flash light with the lid closed and they are spraying the back windsheild area with a hose. Same sitting in the car. I have also heard something about the air vents in the front getting clogged whether they mean a drain ???
if you have a sunroof there is a drain in the front and back. If you are somewhere where it gets cold you may soon have ice in the car. Has the headliner started coming down, usually at the back. I had a car that had a leak took awhile to find it.

I jot bought a 02 Impala a few days ago, and I got the same problem with the water on the passenger side. Ever since the water came in my car the onstar system works when it wants to. But I have to take it in tomorrow so they can find the leak and fix it. I'll tell you where to look for the leak once they get mys fixed.

look under the hood behind the alternater on the passenger side..on the firewall there is a black rubber plug that could be missing which leaves about an inch or two hole for water to leak in at about the top of the passenger side floorboard...I know of this plug because i cut a small hole in mine to run my power cord for my aftermarket stereo amp..
