Is there a detailed procedure for IMRC replacement?

Does anyone know if there is a detailed procedure for an IMRC replacement repair on a 3.8L 1998 Windstar? I saw the one for the Isolator bolt fix at leckemby.net and I was wondering if there was something as good as that for the IMRC replacement issue?

Thanks in advance!

I assume you're talking about the IMRC actuator replacement. The butterflies should not need to be replaced unless something catastrophic happens. They just need to be cleaned on occasion.

Replacing the IMRC actuators is thankfully a much simpler process. I can give you a brief outline here and you can feel free to ask me any more detailed questions.

This is based on my experience replacing the actuator for the front bank. You may not have to remove the alternator if you are doing only the rear bank actuator.

1. Disconnect battery
2. Remove drive belt from alternator. You can do this by pulling upward on the tensioner. It's easier to replace if you leave the belt mounted on the other pulleys.
3. Unbolt (3 bolts) and lift out alternator.
4. Remove electrical and vacuum connections from IMRC actuator.
5. Remove two bolts on actuator to manifold bracket.
6. Squeeze tabs on plastic clip fastening actuator rod into IMRC linkage. Slide toward front of engine until rod is freed. Do not lose plastic clip.

7. Bolt in new actuator.
8. Use clip to secure actuator rod into linkage.
9. Reconnect vacuum and electrical connectors.
10. Bolt alternator back in. Replace drive belt.
11. Connect battery.
12. Start her up.
